Thumbs up Re: Fitness Goals for 2010?

I'm looking to maximze my fitness(duh;)) by hopefully reducing the amount of over-use issues I've experienced over the past year or so. My thought is that my overall performance has to go up if I'm...

Re: What do you do when you can't make it to your affiliate?

I'm not a member of my local club, as I don't really think they can offer anything more than what I've been able to do for the past 4 years or so on my own((with the guys I train with). Remember how...

Working out around injuries?

While doing muscleups last week, I felt something really weird in my right shoulder-almost like it "shifted" away from my body. Anyways, it caused me to stop at 20, as the feeling was very much like...

Re: Hit Adam's Apple with Barbell

Don't I know it. A couple weeks back, I was doing push jerks and smashed my chin with the bar. End result-5 broken teeth all requiring dental work:o
At least the guys in the room noted I could take...

Re: Thank you CrossFit......Adventure Race Update

It's always nice to read about people being able to maintain a solid level of fitness for those unexpected adventures that normally require a fair amount of training. I'm about a month out of a climb...

A Couple Questions to Ask

This might be better suited to another Forum, but here they go...
#1 Do any of you guys take time off from CF to give your joints a break? I'm not talking a week off or so. I mean taking time away...

Re: Charles Poliquin on Crossfit

I might have come across a bit strong, but it seems like he wouldn't need to bash CF with his accomplishments. To those whom aren't hanging on every word he says, it comes off like he's a bit...

Re: Charles Poliquin on Crossfit

This has been a very interesting thread and a pretty good read. And I don't wish to bash Mr Poliquin, as his accomplishments pretty much speak for themselves. But, out of curiousity, has he taken...

Re: navyseals.com wod

I just started this past week with the seals' WODs as I was looking to increase my baseline cardio. The thing I noticed immediately is that the intensity has come to come down a notch or two. My Fran...

Re: do you do anything else

I throw in a bit of extra cardio here and there, as I dabble in mountaineering during the winter. By that, I mean either some runs or some Spinnervals on the stationary trainer. The biggest thing...

Re: More injuries in crossfit than in other fittness programs?

I don't know if crossfit itself causes more injuries, but I think the level on intensity requires learning proper technique and following proper diet/rest to avoid ovetraining and related injuries....

Re: Question about weakest link??

Thanks for the responses, guys. So, it seems that by performing crossfit, the need to bridge the gap from larger and smaller muscles would be covered. I wish I had the book and author to make sure...

Question about weakest link??

Almost twenty years ago, when I searched for info on bodyweight exercise programs, I came across a book. In it, the author stated that he felt in order to excel at bodyweight workouts, extra...

Re: I'm back...well, sort of.

That's good to hear it's not a disc. I had a discectomy a little over two years ago for disc fragments that were paralyzing my right foot and I still have significant pain at times. 9 times out of...

Re: me and my stupid back

While I've never heard of disc manipulation under anethesia, I did have a micro-discectomy in May of 2006. I had a fragmented disc(L5-S1) where a few pieces lodged themselves' onto a nerve, resulting...

Re: Proby Firefighter needs advice!

That would be my 2cents as well, as I've seen the exact same thing on the fireground with regards to crossfitters vs "traditional bodybuilders". The idea is to achieve better performance, not just...

Re: Adventure Races

I've been adventure racing off and on since 2003 in races from 24hours to three days and have found that doing the activities really is the best form of training. Spending time on the bike/in the...

Hi there,
This might seem like an odd question, but I was wondering how much of a typical(if there is such a thing) ultra would be spent actually running vs. speed walking or scrambling?

Hi there. I didn't see if anyone mentioned it, but you might want to add some polymetrics like bounding and stride lengthening to your routine. Put emphasis on holding the knees high to lengthen...

I regularly run at levels that are supposed to be "harder" than I should be running based on HR monitors. I read about "perceived levels of exertion" and go more by that now. If my...
