Re: Crossfit Open 2016
The lack of bounce on those deadlifts would cause you many sadz. Though one could probably pull off something similar with a pair of rubber 45s (or gorilla 65s) and just add iron.
At the end of...

Re: Crossfit Open 2016
The world is a A LOT bigger than we like to think. For every one of you that have done CF/The Open for several years now, there are MANY others who have never done a CF workout even.
There is a...

Re: Not training the snatch?
I understand where you are coming from on this. For a few months I reduced the Snatch to basically an accessory in our main gym programming because we had a lot of beginners and so many had much more...

Re: The CrossFit Games Needs an Enemy
Hah, +1 for humor.
I don't think this will happen. CrossFit is unlike a lot of other sports where a very talented and arrogant athlete can "dominate" the field pretty consistently. The Games, and...

Retiring from Comp/Life After Peak Performance
I thought I'd try to seek some wisdom and just start a conversation (couldn't find anything in search) with respect to people that have pushed a high level in sports/athletics/fitness/strength, and...

Re: Heavy deadlift reps, TnG or no TnG?
Coaching in an affiliate with a bunch of beginner-intermediate athletes, we almost exclusively practice TnG style Deadlifts. 5RM mostly, 3RM occasionally. 1RM only on special occasions or if we have...

Re: Library of cues
I've daydreamed about this before... Basically it's a ton of work if you want it done right, most of the coaches who have the breadth and depth of experience to do this -- Chuck Carswell comes to...

Re: 24 access
One of the rules in the affiliate agreement is a certified CF trainer must be present at all times on the floor (that people are working out at least, presumably). So, even if we can get past the big...

Re: competition debate
The question to me is really simple: are you/your gym culture about growing or about winning? Unfortunately many choose the latter, and even if at the end of the day it is an indefensible position,...

Re: Floor issue
You could also put some sort of non-messy filler in the gaps, like gravel, which is typically what is put down under concrete and above the base dirt layer to disperse the loading. Just gotta make it...

I was watching the first event replay last night and I hate to say it but I don't see this going anywhere as is. I realized basically you gotta care about the athletes and their stories,...

Re: Have we all seen this yet?
I'm no expert, but all these sprints with really heavy and explosive movements over and over -- often to failure or max unbroken -- has got to be pretty taxing, esp. on the connective tissues, even...

Re: Rig, Bumpers, and WODs on a basketball floor
It was from a comp in 2011, so pics are hard to find. Tried to attach one I found online here but it just shows the obvious. You would need to use countersunk bolts to keep it laying flat, same as...

Re: Rig, Bumpers, and WODs on a basketball floor
I'd build some lifting platforms specifically for heavy lifting (esp. C&Js) or drop intensive workouts with moderate weights (e.g. 135# Grace with a lot of singles). You can probably drop 95# or less...

Re: Unathleticism & Dynamic Lifts
Meh, lots of things to work on is right. Kid needs a real life coach. It's always harder to fix someone with a lot of ingrained bad habits, and teens are the hardest to deal with because they ...
