some really angry comments about the missing coverage of the relay event (see the relay event highlights video page).

it was probably just some technical difficulties; and comments like:

"That highlight sucked! Worst coverage of the games this year!"

makes me  and think back to the days when you had to trawl youtube for shaky cam footage filmed with a potato just to get a glimpse of the events.

now, if they start charging for these live streams, then i could understand expecting perfection (or at least your money's worth). As it stands, it's pretty frickn' awesome compared to what "worst coverage" used to be.
"...filmed with a potato..." has to win the funniest line of the thread award or there should be an investigation. :)
Something happened to Miranda's knee I believe. It was while she was doing thr 1RM clean and jerk event. Nothing gruesome but she's out.

Rich and Co. will definitely have stronger girls next year!
I saw an interview with her on the soccer stadium jumbotron, I believe she said she suffered a full ACL tear.

As far as the teams go........well Castro succeeded in dreaming up a scenario in which Rich won, would have been way more interesting had Norcal not got hurt. Making 300 points up in solo events in a team competition is a joke.

I also question whether Rich and James Hobart spent 50% of their time training at Crossfit Mayhem, my guess no offing way, should that not disqualify them or do those rules only apply in certain circumstances ?
i am a huge Froning fan and i also love Hobart but yes, this i agree with. the whole thing just reeked of favoritism. making so many points in solo events for team competition ensured that Froning had an advantage since their guys are the strongest on the field while their girls are not quite there.

Fun final day ! happy with Ben Smith and the woman's winner

Each year people come from nowhere to be competitive in the games with only a 'year' of crossfitting

This shows one thing. Crossfit isn't the method , it's the test. People from various sporting backgrounds need to learn the crossfit movements but have gained strength and conditioning from their training for whatever sport they have been involved in

Each year the competitors get better and better. We are still quite far away from the very best potential athletes competing. We have 'semi' pro rugby players and college this and college that. Basically a ton of great athletes who weren't quite good enough to go pro in other sports

The year that a 17 year old athletic phenom consciously chooses a career in crossfit over a career in the NFL/NBA/track and frield etc etc is when the winner of the crossfit games really can come close to be called fittest on earth.

so the big question is

Would Rich have won again this year ?

I think not

And why did Camille drop off so much ? champion to not even Top 10

i actually think he would have.

1) he looked great while on team
2) he already competed against all the top guys from this year and beat them before.
3) a lot of the workouts this year were right in his wheel house and with all the running he did this year, even that wouldn't be an issue.
4) he could have won the C&J, Sandbag, Heavy DT and place very high in pretty much all the rest of the events other than maybe the last events.

I have seen a lot of people making a similar comment, I tend to disagree. Going into the games I didn't think Mayhem would be top 10 by the end of the weekend. The solo events should be another way to expose your weakest link/links, all of their men got first (clearly more than Rich, not that you guys are claiming it was only him) but a more balanced team should be able to get more points. There individual girls did get a 3rd and 5th on that one, with that said having only 10 teams helps if you score lower.

If he really wanted to help their team he could have had some workouts where you can divide the work as you would like and their is no work requirement. I was impressed with them on the last few days.

Overall, I think all the races individual and team were fun to watch because they were very competitive and a lot of surprises out there. Very impressed by many of the rookies and individuals that have only been focusing on CrossFit for a few years.

*Edit, random note, going into the final event the announcers made it sound like Mayhem was down a point or two, when in reality I think they were down 20, curious if the teams had any idea of this because if Milford could have got a place or two higher they would have sealed the deal. Watching it live I thought it was pretty much winner take all between the two teams.

What is the point of having an alternate on your team if they can't step in when an athlete goes down? I'm sure they'd be worried teams would sub people in and out to work strengths but that could be easily solved. Only let someone sub in if a doctor rules a teammate can't medically continue and they're not allowed to sub back in later, they're done.
Getting a fresh athlete would be a huge advantage, having a doctor check them out like you said would be the only way I could see it possibly working.

This! At the time of the final event, the leaderboard showed Mayhem behind by 1 point to Milford. However, these scores did NOT reflect the last 3 events. Once tallied, Mayhem was behind by 15, not 1. So instead of needing to "just" beat Milford, they needed to beat them by enough. Luckily, they did, gaining 20 points in the last event to win by 5.

This could have been really, really, messy.

I was thinking this as I was watching, how horrible would it be to think you won and then be told sorry the score board was wrong.
