New Layout on CrossFit.com
I was just wondering what people's reaction was about the layout of crossfit.com changing.
I want to reserve judgement until I find out the reason why they did it, but my initial reaction is I'm pretty bummed out. I really liked the old layout. Thoughts? |
Re: New Layout on CrossFit.com
I like it.
I have been on the boards from 2008 and it has been the same pretty much. I first was surprised, but I think it is fine. |
Re: New Layout on CrossFit.com
About time but it will take time to get used to it.
But it's looking good |

I want to reserve judgement until I find out the reason why they did it, but my initial reaction is I'm pretty bummed out. I really liked the old layout.
the "why" is obviously to make it more tablet / mobile friendly. but in doing so it makes it much worse on desktop (compared to the old site, where it was almost perfect). that section with the long horizontal scrolling area -- :no000000: top global nav inconsistencies: -shouldn't change when you go to different sections -links shouldn't behave differently either (click 'WODs' will take you to the WODs section, but for 'Training' and 'Certifications' you have to hover and then click 'Home' ) . 'Home' is redundant as the top submenu item. -and even different still is Exercises / Certifications / Journal where hovering over them gives a long horizontal menu and to get to that subsection is the item on the far left 500px high top image is absurd. RSS not implemented yet or i just can't find it. Robots.txt seems restrictive, like it's not allowing any crawlers at all. LOVE the 404 page, though  |
Re: New Layout on CrossFit.com
The key is sign in and click on the tabs.

Re: New Layout on CrossFit.com
^^ speaking of sign-in:
on mobile view, there's no way to sign in/out from the mainsite -- it's not in the top nav, hamburger menu, or footer. it's there in games.crossfit.com (wfs) so i'm guessing it was kinda ported from there. (as a side note though -- i don't see why on desktop view, there would even be a "sign in" on mainsite as it doesn't add any functionality or feature when you're signed in. maybe it's something for later on.) |
Re: New Layout on CrossFit.com
I know when you sign in it allows you to comment on things. I also noticed the compare-to links don't work, which is annoying.
To my surprise, the comments seem to be split about 50/50 with people who like the change and people who don't. I thought everyone would dislike it, so maybe I'm just being the grinch! I suppose as long as there is a workout of the day I will be happy. |

ah, thanks for pointing that out. I think i've only commented once on the wods on the old site so forgot all about. So that's how you'd log in (view wod --> click 'login to comment' at the bottom. however, mobile view still doesn't have a logout/sign-out function. there's also no way to update your email address (besides that very first time when they send an email verification link).
I also noticed the compare-to links don't work, which is annoying.
hmm...i went back a few wods and they work for me; make sure you don't have any pop-up blockers running. the date links open a new tab/window.
I suppose as long as there is a workout of the day I will be happy.
agreed! :thumbs_up |

Oh good looks. They work now. Before it redirected to Adrian Bozman's NO REP page

Re: New Layout on CrossFit.com
The main site homepage was sorely outdated. Even though it seems that they are a little bit late to the party, it looks good.
Now, to see where they'll go with social media :) |
