i am starting to concentrate more on gaining strength and i was wondering if should still continue to cycle/run/swim. will this slow my strength gains or is it ok to do sprint sets? if so what is a good distance and number of sprints to do.

Any type of endurance work will slow down your strength gains to a certain extent because endurance and absolute strength are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Sprinting is good if you want to build strength though.
