Aaron, I've been deadlifting about as long as I've been training. Although I've only taken it really seriously in the past ~4 years or so. With my current routine, I hit a heavy deadlift every 16 days.

Do you just do the WODs, or any additional lifting? What is with people doing DL barefoot? Is there any advantages?

Reed, I add some additional lifting and perform the metcon WODs. I use a lift/metcon/metcon/off pattern. Seems to be working well!

Barefoot helps in two ways. First, it gets me closer to the bar so I'm not required to bend down as much. Saves about an inch, but when near your max, it can make or break the lift.

Second, when you start the drive, there's no compression of a shoe to interfer with moving the bar off the ground. If you exaggerated this idea, imagine trying to deadlift on a trampoline. Again, doesn't make a huge difference, but when near your max it can.

That's why you'll see a lot of powerlifters wearing "slippers" or flat soled shoes. I haven't been bringing my flat shoes with me lately, so I had to opt for no shoes! :biggrin:
