Congrats on getting your muscle ups Nik, I might start tapin my rings up also sounds like a good idea. Glad you boys had a good time at GSX, I am very jealous, no affiliates anywhere near me.
Thanks Scott, today being a rest day, I want to do muscle up practice, BUT after talking to Jeff Tucker and Vanessa, it confirmed what I have been thinking about over training on off days and doing doublr workouts. I will still try one or two if we tape our rings today, just to figure out why and if it was a grip issue here.
Congrats on the MUs, Nik! Looking good in the pics!
Put some tape on the rings which will help with the grip. I was told to use the tape that they use on fishing rods.
Thanks Christin, I have never thought of fishing rod tape, i will check it oout.

Good luck with the tape Nik, on the rest days its a matter of personal recovery time, before starting crossfit my training volume was much higher even when I double up workouts and train on rest day, I got told off whenever I make this statement on any thread so I will shut up now. PS I think I will do some shoulder pressing after Cindy and maybe a 'Core WOD'. :D

Yea, I'm excided to see what happens, to get muscle ups down would be great. I don't know if I was just running on adrenilen from being there. I was all intimidated and my stomach was queer, I thought I would get there and they would tell me my form was all wrong, or'' you are doing everything wrong, that is all wrong!'' It was great to know I am on the right track!!

And you are right, everyone is different, I just want to not over do it, I feel I need the rest day, so I'm taking it. I can get etreem with things and I need to watch it. I have only been CFing for 6 months, it is ok if I can't do everything now, thing will come with time. (but it is real eazy for me to do extra in serch of getting it all now!!)

Hi Nik!
You are the one that's strong. I'll trade your pullup and mu talents for my core strength.

Rest up! If you feel like you need the rest you DEFINITELY do. THen on days you don't you still probably do. Most of the time it's my head that doesn't want a rest day, not my body.

That's it exactly, I need the rest, I don't want to take it. But I will today. I will try a muscle up or two when I get tape today though. Thats not really doing anything, right?

Nik Nichols 12-22-2008 02:15 PM

Re: Nik

so I taped the rings and it did make a difference. I did two more muscle ups and messed arround with muscle up progression. Good to know I didn't loose the skill like I thought. But it was more difficult, I wonder if the rings are different themselves. Or would it make a difference?

So on my 10:00 break I went to set up for ''Eva'' for lunch, and setup my monstrosity one hand curl bar with the 70 lbs for the 2 pood, and comitted to runing in the misty rain today. But we are going to a work lunch. So ''Eva'' is out today. I will have to squeeze in some small scaled down version at 3:00.

I will post what i get done then.

Vanessa Sisson 12-23-2008 10:48 AM

Re: Nik

How many rounds do you think you'll try of Eva?

I don't think there is a women's weight for this! Agh! 2 pood swings. Yikes.

Re: Nik

Hi Nik, I haven't even held a 2 pood KB but I know that 36kg(2 pood) DB swings are a nightmare!

Did you have a go at the full rollouts? I will be taking my solid medicine ball to my parents house for practice, you almost palm the ball across the ground making it easier to tell where your limits are.

Happy Christmas for tomorrow!

Yea, I got a couple after taping. It is tough though. But I think I'm at that point of doing them in WOD's now, at least at the begining!!

Plus Vanessa showed me a muscle up transition that is closer to a muscle up then jumping or any other assist. So They are now on the menue. Oh and they are not kipping either, I tried to do some like that and it is harder for me.(as in I can't get one)
Great work in bad conditions and busy times Nik, I imagine you in a business meeting shouting while swinging the KBS then just running out
Close, RThere is the filthy fifty I was on box jumps and my boss came out and started talking about work and asking about this order and that. All the wile I'm still jumping!! I even kept my count which I have the worst time with!!

Yea 2 pood is a ''man'' weight!! I only got 1 round and 7 reps at it, then I couldn't get it high enough and dropped to 60 lbs. I will try the roll out today and see If I can't give myself a black eye for Christmass!!

Happy Christmass too you!!!

Re: Nik

Back Squat 5-5-5-5-5 reps

latst time this time

1. 175lbs 1. 185lbs
2. 195lbs 2. 200lbs
3. 215lbs 3. 225lbs
4. 225lbs 4. 235lbs
5. 240lbs 5. 245lbs

Those last two sets were tough. Real tough, but happy with the 5 extra lbs

Scott and Mathew, I did those foot to hand rollouts, they aren''t as bad as I thought. I did one per round during the squats just to see. I didn't rep them just messing with it. I may video it so you guys can check form and want to see it.

Re: Nik

Ok, so I missed a couple of workouts over the holiday. It sucked that I had to miss them, but I expected it. So my back is really sor on the upper left side, I don't know what I did, I guess i slept funny.

I went back and did 50 weighted back ext. to try to strech it out(it usually works) and 50 weighted situps. I was going to do some roll outs and couldn't. I went to put the bar on the rack and my back said no.

I so wanted to do todays WOD, but I don't know. The end of the year looks like crap right now.:ranting2:

Sorry to hear your feeling some back pain, it will probably pass very quick if its just from sleeping wrong Nik, you got lots of workouts to pick from so one must be good.

Well i went back to see if I could strech my back some. I am still sore.

I did 50 back ext. wo situps, 2 sets of 10 knee roll outs, 10 dead hang pullups, 10 romanian dead lifts with 85lbs. All done really slow and deliberate. Back is still sore. I hope the rest over the weekend works it out.

Don't push it to much, keep resting and taking Ibuprofen. The only thing that truly seems to help me on my lower back when it hurts is rest and more rest. Time seems to be my best friend. Plenty of stretching when your body allows it and rest.

Happy New Year man, I hope you have a great weekend.

Yea Nick, I don't plan to do anything till next week. All though I did a set of romanian dead lift at 135 at lunch, real slow trying to strech out. Brady did the WOD I watched the time for him, it made me want to workout, but I didn't (sigh).

Hang in there man, you'll be back before you know it. You can ask Scott and I both, it just takes time and you don't want to rush it.

You are dead right, but you know yourself how frustrating it is to be sore all day, and miss workouts. But like you said, it is only time and being carefull. I just want it now, and I hate it that I didn't really do anything to mess it up in the first place!!:ranting2:
