Are beans (black beans, red beans, etc.) good to include in a diet (paleo, zone)?

Jeremy Shepard 06-03-2006 02:12 PM

I'm pretty sure that beans are not allowed in the classic Paleo Diet.

Rob McBee 06-03-2006 03:45 PM

Beans, they're neither fruit nor magical despite reports to the contrary.

Seriously though I think all the paleo literature says to avoid them.

from what i have read the zone diet says that black beans (cooked), kidney beans (cooked), and garbonzo beans aka chickpeas are favorable. lima beans, pinto beans, and baked beans are unfavorable.

the paleo diet does recommend to stay away from all beans. i think if i remember correctly it is due to high levels of anti-nutirents (a kind of biological safety mechanism).
