Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I did feel "bad" for Lauren, I kinda feel like these Open demonstrations are to showcase the athletes (which it did for Foucher) but it showed an obvious weakness in Lauren's game. In the Cool Down aftershow she said how shocked she was to be invited, which is kinda how we all felt. Maybe they wanted us to see that an elite athlete can still struggle? Who knows?
It was obvious to me that they chose these two athletes based on the Power Trio of Hotness thread. http://board.crossfit.com/showpost.php?p=1237654&postcount=139 (wfs) |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Sadly 10 seconds away from no re-do.. but happy that this workout was not brutal on the body like last weeks.
Tomorrow is the day.. was a wall ball and transition workout for me. Except for being a woos on the last set of double unders. Broke at 12, stopped at 36 WTF and then broke again at 60.. then did more.. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Wonder how much time between filming the standards with Brooke E-nice.. do they do it that day and release it that night or weeks + in advance. Wonder if they just film the exercises, no reps, good reps stuff like that all at one time.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Yeah the trio of hotness. Frankly for me it is Lauren Brooks and Katrin Tanja Davidsdottor and then the rest of them.
But yeah her against Foucher with the MUs was a tough one for her. |

My expectation is that Brooke spent a day or two filming movement standards for everything under the sun. She is a high level competitor so there's no way they did this in a way that reveals the WOD to her early. |

This is what I am thinking... A possible "Grab Bag" of hundreds of movements at various weights, so that Castro can decide the WOD at the last minute. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Anyone seen the video of Briggs 15.3 yet? I don't remotely doubt she did it perfectly, I just want to watch the spectacle of her finishing a full round (and 1 muscle-up) every 3.5 minutes!

I've wondered about that. I think they must film it all weeks or months in advance because she is wearing the same outfit in all the pictures. I guess maybe they just tell her the movements to demo and not the workouts. I wonder how many people know the workouts ahead of time. They seem to be pretty good at keeping the workouts a secret. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
So what's going to happen on 15.4?
2 animals that are going to give it 100% I think we are looking at: Box jumps Cleans or thrusters or both Some type of ladder with no time cap as this will separate the field even more. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
15.3 was a relatively long Open workout. I'm feeling like we're in for a flat out sprint. 500m row, 50 burpee box jump overs, 500m row, or something.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
There are only a few things left that they have yet to reveal.
Box jumps Thrusters Clean and jerks Rowing Some form of Burpee I would think some of these are coming up for 15.4 I also would not be surprised if there isn't another A and A1 event where you find your max snatch or OHS or something like that. We shall find out soon enough. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I'm thinking they bust out HSPU this week, based on these athletes.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I thought the same thing, that the athletes would be representative of teh workout, but everyone's talking about how Brooks seemed a poor choice for MU.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I believe the two of them did 14.4 last year. The chipper with the rowing.
I would love to see some strict HSPUs as well but I think it would be tough to video judge to see hand placement and feet staying put where they need to. I could end up being wrong but we will know for sure Thursday night. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Heavy snatch, dead lift..
S2O HR Push ups burpee in its own fashion Thrusters Box jumps C and J Row Wild cards Pistol HSPU HS walks 2 weeks maybe 3 or more scores? Throw out worst score on one of the weeks? Will see on Thursday... I have not been even close on reading Castro's mind. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I love the idea of a second 15.xA event, for a total of 7 scored events, and then throw out the lowest ranked score. That would really throw a wrench in the standings. But it will never happen. I can't think of HQ doing anything that would allow athletes to avoid a weakness.

I agree, that kind of defeats the whole mantra of Crossfit. It would be cool tho, I have a 50 year old female friend of mine who is sitting at 12th in the region but doesn't have MU's so she couldn't do the RX workout. That effectively takes her out of the race. Dropping that one workout would put her back near the top. |

Nicely done. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
There are a few things we haven't seen yet that usually show up in the open:
Short time domain - 6 minutes or less Long time domain - 15 minutes or more Push-pull superset Deadlift-box jump couplet Ascending weights Chipper Shoulder to overhead thrusters burpees rowing I think Panchek vs. Bridges will be a short time domain with deadlifts, burpee box jumps, & maybe HSPU. I think the Leblanc-Bazinet vs. Briggs vs. Thorisdottir showdown will be a longer workout with ascending weight thrusters and bar muscle ups. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I do not think the clock will save us this week, I think this will be get them done, you will complete X amount of reps for time. Just as in 14.5
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I'm thinking there's going to be another ".a" Max height box jumps?
Chipper and ascending weights are likely, as is some variation of burpee...I also think with all the uproar over MUs, they'll probably keep it less skill based. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I don't think HQ cares about any MU uproar.

I don't think they are upset over it or back peddling, but I think they'll be mindful. Yeah, the max height box jump fails would be great fun! |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
there was a muscle up roar?
like when someone gets their first muscle-up and lets out a roar of accomplishment? i love those and saw a lot of them this past week. good on them! :thumbs_up |

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
With the addition of scaled, I was not at all surprised that they put MUs in front. I would not complain about that at all (probably because at 255, I was still able to get a full round in). The thing I would complain about is the Scaled workout looked super boring and seemed like lazy programming.
Also wanted to add, that I would love to see another ".a" max lift (come on Snatch), but I do not think it will be Max height box jumps. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
During the wod announcement, they need to do something about the connection to whatever CF gym they make the skype(?) shoutout with.
the two i saw were a garbled mess -- Mckernan: and here we have crossfit suchandsuch. whaddaya say fellas? I have a little viewing party each week at my house and we all just crack up at that part. They try to show CF's widespread involvement and throw it to some third world country and the connection is always awful. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I'm thinking a .a is a good bet, but not another 1RM. I think they'll balance out having a .a of a strength component, with a .a of a gymnastic movement (HPSU would be my guess) or mono-structural (maybe a 3 min row for cal?).

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
either way I see Panchik winning vs Bridges. Although, Josh is a warrior on the long work outs.

didn't he lose last year? and i am putting money on Bridges since he is one of my top 3 favorite athletes. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
now that they announced the work out. I see Josh doing very well. His HSPU are usually amazing and 185 is light weight for him.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Bridges doing his hspu with hands too far apart so he's not reaching his tape mark. Getting no repped like crazy
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
wow, that standard killed Bridges. he had 20+ no reps
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Yea that new standard killed Bridges. He will do it again, I'm sure. Judging is huge in this workout. There will be a huuuuge discrepancy between how people judge each other on this one.

he just said that he will be doing it again. as for judging, i agree 100%, i can see a big discrepancy in judging. Bridges had Boz so he pretty much got the most strict judge out there. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Either feet are above or not. Pretty cut and dry
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
For scaled, one barbell or two? Two different weights would required loading/unloading 10 lb. plates to go from 95 to 115 each round.
Doesn't say either way in the video or the printed standards. HUGE advantage to have 2 barbells -- no transition time. Thoughts? |
