Those ring HSPU's would take loads of preparation and practise before putting them in a WOD for time, well done for giving them a go Nik, great effort. I went with normal HSPU's as nowhere near a wall to hang rings. Going to take my jog soon, sure tomorrow will be running still.

You are right on the ring HSPU's. I had it to where I could get to a wall (rack) with the rings, and I only did a few(if I did 3 I'd be suprised pre workout) So I didn't realize how easy a foot assist would be.

You are right there is alot of prep to doing them proper and putting them in the workout.

If I'd have done more of a warmup with them and the assist I'd have realized it was to easy, but in the WOD I have to much of a one track mind. I just stuck with what I started with. It has been a long time I scaled to big on a workout.Usually I go to heavy or with the harder scale, but I'm not worried about it at all, it is what it is, I logged it and know for the next time.

I was reading on CF One World today and it had some information about good supplements to take for back pain, particularly arthritic like yours Nik , here's the link http://crossfitoneworld.com/

You never know when you find something that could help so posting in case. I will be running also today, we have snow as usual so it should be fun.

Run or Row 5K

I ran, no rower. Time 26:24
slower then my best but it felt great. I felt like I was running hard. No back pain, left quad got fat and sore after a wile, left knee got a bit sore, but managed to run with it fine. I was just slower then my best.

Like I said, it felt great, I felt like I was running pretty hard instead of just going along. It was cold though, 35dergees C(95 F?) my hands were cold, face a bit cold, but fine for the most part.

Great run, I needed it.

Scott, thanks for the link, I am reading it and as fotr the celebrex I tried it and have a reaction to it, that is a no go. I take glucosamine now which does help. I take Ibuprofin when I have to, but try to keep from taking it at all. I'll read up more on the Oneworld site, and I'll post up what I'm doing and see where it goes.

Thanks for the link.

:highfive: alright Nik, glad to hear the back was not an issue. Give you props for running in the cold. I personally detest it cuz it kills my lungs. Sometimes the time doesn't really matter as long as you get it done.

I wonder how muck the cold and wind made the run feel faster. Lungs were ok, a little tough in the wind, but I have run in worse. You are right, i just wanted to get through the run in the best form and my back to not bother me. It felt good, it felt strong. So that is what I got a good strong slow 5K. I'm not worried about it a bit.

I would like a shot at that 5K row just to have done one.

I guess I'm lucky, I haven't rowed more then a couple of times and that wass just for a warmup, so I don't know what it is I ask.

I don't mind running in the rain, just cold rain.

Im feeling your pain on the cold run, reckon its about the same temperature here right now, thought the hand holding the stopwatch would fall off after a while. Real glad to here the back was solid, I sometimes take Ibuprofen and it can be tempting to take it when you dont need it.

CF Total today and I will have to attempt it, going to be anxious all day now, since physio I must attempt these lifts so fingers crossed.

I'll be doing the total too, I will just be watchfull of form. I don't expect a pr. But a good lift wil make me feel better.

Just watch your form like you alwayse do. You know your limits.

Will do Nik, just squat what you can without using too much lower back and the same with deadlift, whatever feels comfortable.

30 GHD's non stop
30 back ext 30 lbs non stop
30 abbmatt situps 45lbs plate nonstop
30pullups nonstop

Re: Nik

Back squat, 1 rep
Shoulder Press, 1 rep
Deadlift, 1

squat 285lbs(129K) stopped there to not push my back. No PR
SP 140lbs(63.5k) mached my PR
deadlift 325lbs(147.4K) PR by 5lbs

I stopped the squat there for my back. I didn't feel I should push it . It felt fine squating but I could feel a little bit unracking and reracking.

Thanks Leon. The deads felt rock solid, the truth is I had more in the tank. I pr'd and still had more. The deads didn't bother my back at all. I stoped to not be greedy and walk away to lift another day.

The squats were more of a worry then the deads once I was doing them.

almost forgot 3:00 break
HSPU ladder on the min.7to1to4 and 3on the 5th 40 reps total. I think I did round 3 twice on the way down the ladder, I wasnt sure at that point. But I'm not counting it if I did it twice.

Great work Nik and sensible to stop right there and save yourself for another day. Congrats on the deadlift PR, always good to get a strength pr, I forget how it feels.

Oh and I see you completed the 7's pyramid, HSPU 8 pyramid for you next time.

Thanks Scott, I was suprised with the deadlift. My back is getting better bit by bit. Like we said, I went lift by lift and how it felt. I still had more in the tank too. I had the bar locked out on my last rep and as I locked out I told Brady ''I have more.'' But I decided to stop safe and like Brady said, I pr'd and still have more for the next time.

I am going to try a ciropractor and see if I can't get my back looked at and ajusted. I really think alot of my problems are there. It also can't hurt to get it looked at just to be sure if it is not part of my issue.

My regular Doc is a good guy, but he is quick to throw meds at an injury, and I want to figure it out as to the core of it. Kind of like you Scott.

HSPU's were tough. I did feel the presses, but I am glad to beat the 7's and looking for 8. I know fresh I have 8.

Yes either a chiro or sports physio could help you out , looking through the board yesterday I came across this thread with an interesting link on it:

http://www.board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=55783

It helps you to locate your injury cause and maybe you have an SI joint problem that could be corrected quickly by a chiro. Trouble with medication is it just covers the problem why you keep causing damage, the only way to get totally better is to find the source of the problem.

Yep great work on the pyramid, your catching me up now, last one I done was the 10's and I fell off the wall on the set of 7, would of finished it but over-balanced.

Exactly right on the injury, At first I was glad for the meds, now I don't want to have to have them. Befor I thought my back was just the way it was and I would live with the pain the rest of my life. Now I think i can get it healed and be strong again.

The pyrimid is getting harder now. But I am glad to be working on it.

I'll check the link in a bit or at break, time to work for me.

Re: Nik

Have you been formally diagnosed with arthritis in ur back nik? If it is arthritis then I don't think a chiro can do anything since that doesn't go away. I hope it's not arthrits so u can find a solution to the problem. My brother is a chiro I'll ask what he recommends.

Ernie Guevara 02-24-2010 08:40 AM

Re: Nik

Hey Nik, I aske my brothe, the chiropractor, what can adjustments do for someone's back if they have arthritis on it. This is what he said,"Doesn't make it better. Might just stop it from progressing and help with pain relief. There's no cure for arthritis". So atleast it will ease your pain without medication. Jopethat helps in some way.

Nik Nichols 02-24-2010 08:46 AM

Re: Nik

Yhank Ernie, that does help. I do have arthritus in my back. But I don't think it is arthritus pain. My back goes out , I pull it sometime and i think my spine is out of ajustment or a disk is.

I understand the arthritus is there, but there is more at work in my back then that. Arthritus is kust point pain and spuring. It shouldn't be pulling or such.

I'll still get it checked out and if it proves tio not be an alighnment issue, then i know by back is good in that respect. I will narrow it down to what it is.

Ok tell me if I'm looking at todays WOD right, we all know how I love to screw up the workout.

START the clock, do one min wall ball, cound reps, go straight to rope climb for one min count reps, run 400m and then I can rest until 6 min has passed total from start of workout. Repeat 4 more times.

So the first 2 min are gone from the 6 total the time it takes to run the 400 is in the air, I get what evertime is left over IF there is time.

Did i saty that I hate wall ball?;)

Well Scott I was crying about not enough running.

Yes you got this one right Nik, just think of each round as 6 minutes. I would guess that after the 2 miniutes of wall ball and climbs the 400m will probably take the best part of the next 2 minutes leaving about 2 minutes of rest before repeating. The workout should last around 30 minutes in all.

You hate wall ball but not as much as you use to hate it, more breathing practice today. My right calve is still very sore from the 5k like yours, have to get old foamy out I reckon.
