Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play.
-Immanuel Kant I've been in this philosophy schtick for awhile and i find that it helps reinforce as well as challenge my whole philosophy on fitness. This one by Kant is just a testament to the division between those who are armchair theoreticians and those who actually practice what they preach. There are some things you can not get from reading a book and what we practice physically is blunted if we do not apply exercise science and theory. Understanding and visualizing the way the body moves is paramount to a successful physical practice, but theorizing alone is an exercise in futility (IMO). Crossfit satiates both cognitive skill/problem solving and physical exertion. In summation: (Archaic Example) Read Book, Lift Rock, Repeat. UGHH! ...perhaps a Dan John-ism |
