You having a go at the main site WOD tomorrow??
Looks like a good one! Many people have trouble with HSPU's or L-pullups, and those DB squat cleans can get nasty too. I'm gonna murder this one tomorrow!! :gunsmilie Watch for a fast one! How bout RICH!? Guy is the truth!! |

Richard made it look easy didn't he? He didn't looked stressed or tired. He got a bit of a wobble on the overhead carry at one point, but that is about it. Even when he was doing singles on the last set of pullups it looked good. He is real smat and efficent in his work. |
Re: Nik
Todays mainpage looks tough. Those DB squat cleans are going to be killer. Have fun with it Nik.
|
Re: Nik
Warmup tp day was 30GHD's 30 Backext 40lbs 30 abmatt situps with 25lbs overhead.
I didn't do anything else. I'm feeling really tired right now. I hope it is bad eating and little sleep. It may be burnout. I don't really feel that energetic today. We will see how the workouts goes. One rep, one set, one round at a time. |
Re: Nik
Seven rounds for time of:
10 Handstand push-ups 45lb dumbbells Squat clean, 10 reps 10 L-pull-ups heavily scaled. HSPU's to abmatt cleans with 40lbs DB's(no 45's) ''L'' pull's RX'd time 34:45 HSPU's were aweful. I broke them all up. I tried to keep the breaks short, but it didn't take long for failure. Cleans unbroken ''L'' pull's all singles. This was an exercize in endurance. I wanted to stop, but finished it. |
Re: Nik
I'm thinking about taking the week off. My left shoulder and arm are really sore and weak. I'll see how I feel tomorow.

Take it. You're body is telling you something. You'll be surprised at how refreshed you'll feel after a few solid days of rest, and I know you'll be itching to get back at it, so maybe you'll even come back with a few PR's, who knows! |

It is just SO FREAKIN hard to not workout. I love it. I am truly addicted to it. To miss a week would suck to no end. But I think i need it. But the squat cleans were real good. I got a rythum for it. It was almost like a 2hand KB swing with a shoulder shrug and jump. I'd catch the clean stand up drop (swing) the DB's down and swing them back up for the next rep. No breaks at all. It was great. Still thinking of a break. My shoulder and arm are not getting better. I'm also thinking of going with a strwenth cycle. I'm adding in so much heavy with the mainpage I think it is breaking me down. That and alot of stress in my life right now. Sleep is good, food is good during the week, more carbs and not enough calories during the weekend. |
Re: Nik
Yes you got to rest today Nik, sounds like it will break you down more and more until you do and also stop worrying about resting as that will stress you even more. You could ask Leon about the programming, could be good for you to do something different for a month or two then come back to main page, there's a lot of talk about the OPT programming at the regional and a lot of successful people there who are using it.

Will do Scott. I have though about doing some strenth work, but I never felt ready to stop the main page, it has brough me this far. I either need to be strict mainpage of do a month of strenth work like you said. |

Im going to have a look into the OPT training and just use some of he's ideas as additions to main page, like the unbroken sets rules. You pick something like for example 21 swings at 1.5 pood and do 3 sets unbroken with a set rest time. The programming is too complex for me to totally switch too. I think a heavy month off the main page would definately benefit you, you should ask Leon what he thinks also as he may suggest a little longer to get the proper benefit. |

Yea, I was adding in some lenier progression work of 3x3 of squats, deads, presses. It was going well, saw some gains, but it is alot with the main page and G2G on stuff i need to work. I need to focus. That and i don't want to loose the metcon abelity I have started to gain. So many aspects to work on. |

Stress is a big part of it all. That and my arm is hurting. Right now at work I'm the only one in my section, Brady helps out when he can. We dropped everyone for the economy. Now it is ticping up(thank God) and I have more then I can do most days. It is heavy. Also I can't take any time off other then the weekends. I haven't had a holiday sense Martin was born 3 years ago. it is a bit of a tough time. But I just want my arm to stop hurting. |
Re: Nik
I'm sorry to hear about the arm Nik, I know how much that stuff sucks. I'm still dealing with my shoulders, and they seem to be getting better slowly with some smart programming. Stress at work is no good. Try looking on the bright side about that, I know alot of pilots who are out of work because of the economy.

Thank Jesse, it is tough (as you know) to decide to not workout because if anything. as for the stress at work, it is just heavy right now. I'm glad we have the work, I'm glad were are as busy as we are, I'm glad I have a job. It is just tough right now. I'll be fine not to worry. |
Re: Nik
Ok so after a lot of crying here on the boards, I'm taking a break, I'm taking this cycle off to rest my arm and shoulder and just rest. No weights, no pulling. I will be streching and warming my back, but no workouts(if I can stick to it) It can't hurt me to take a break, So I will.
I haven't checked the main page yet, I wanted to post the break so I will stick to it befor I see what the workout is. I'd end up justifying why I could do ''this last one.'' I'll still post up, and mope and cry about it. So I won't be absent, just not doing anything. As dumb as it sounds this is really a hard decision to make. |

You should try and use the time off to decide exactly what programming you are going to hit when you come back stronger. Hope that arm feels better today. |

Nik:
Your arm and shoulder are SCREAMING at you... listen to your body... (what would you tell any of the people on this board who said the same thing....).. I hope that you can take this time and rest your body and plan what will be the next move for you in the programming. You are doing GREAT!! We all need to take a rest and "regroup" sometimes.. The stress of work and whatever else you have going is getting to you.. I can hear it in all of your posts.. the foam roller can be your best friend!! Let us know what you are thinking for programing.. it can be fun and creative!! :) (PS: i haven't posted to your board for a while... sorry... I wanted to say that what you said about being a "good mom"... that was really nice... thanks ..) |

Thanks, You nailed it Scott. I love the workout and how i feel with it. It is a big part of my life, and to stop is rough. My arm is ok. Just fatigued except my bicept. It doesnt hurt till I start pulling. i can do pullups(kip) and it eases up, but it has been bothering me for over a month now. I dread heavy cleans. Yea now is thwe time to figure out what to do next. And of corse today we get to do MU's!!:ranting2: See i can talk myself into this one real easy. I love MU's, and 135 on cleans will hurt, but doable. Man Power cleans too.
Nik: Your arm and shoulder are SCREAMING at you... listen to your body... Like i said about ''Mom'' you chose to be good to your kids. It isn't automatic. You choose to do the best you can for them with what you have. You could just as easily not care, not take care, not do anything and treat you kids and if they are a bother to you. It is a choise. A self sacrificing choise that your kids won't understand till they are older or when they have kids if at all. |
Re: Nik
Five rounds for time of:
5 Muscle-ups 135 pound Power clean, 10 reps Run 220 meters taking a rest for my arm. I'll do some foam rolling and mobility work. |
Re: Nik
Sometimes the bicep pain comes from a strain in the shoulder so make sure to foam roll your shoulders. Best way to do them is to kneel and lean forward taking your weight on the front delts, see how it feels Nik, if there's any tension in there it could be the cause.
I could hear you talking yourself into hitting todays WOD, I am not going to give you the go-ahead, even if it does not hurt you doing the workout it will prolong the healing so foam roll and get planning. |

Re: Nik
10:00 break 30 GHD's 30 Back ext 40 lbs. Some rolling.
|
Re: Nik
WOD, foam rolling Shoulder mobility work, Hip mobility drills. DU practice.
I coached Brady through todays WOD and ran the runs with him. It is already killling me not working out. Brady is doing his best to get me to workout with him. Almost worked. If my arm was ok I'd have done it. That is the last of the crying from me. |
Re: Nik
3:00 break
Foam roll my shoulder and back. Left shoulder really sore. Arm on the out side sore. I did light wind mills 15lbs and my laft shoulder sucked compared to my right. Scott you may be on to something. DU practice. I got 3 different sets of 25 rep. Some shorter sets. I was just going for max efforts. 25 max be pr if not close. I though I had 30 but missed. funny when I get tired(or shoulders get tired) my hands don't work together. they lose rythum with each other. |
Re: Nik
Nik I think its a good idea to take a break. I know its hard. I also completely agree with what everyone else has been saying. Foam rolling the shoulder is definitely a good idea but it is childsplay compared to using a BASEBALL on the upper back and shoulders. This video has done wonders to my shoulders http://journal.crossfit.com/2009/11/upper-body-maintenance.tplWFS.
I found that rolling along the edges of my shoulderblades on my upper back hit some triggerpoints that made a huge difference in pains that were on the front of my shoulders and upper arms. Also, rolling the lats under my arms did the same thing. |

Re: Nik
Just caught the word on your shoulder. Getting good advice - take a rehab break. This is advice I never took and I am constantly dealing with golf and tennis elbow in both arms - scar tissue builds up. I bumped my inner elbow against my thigh while working out to day and it almost brought tears to my eyes. I agree with you as well that it is addicting. I guess that's why I never took healing breaks. I was afraid I was going to lose too much too fast or end up starting over. You're dedicated and driven so you won't have a problem getting and staying in the saddle once you're healed. I'm the pot calling the kettle black if you haven't figured that out. I always find it easier to give advice. lol
