Crossfit journal 21 vs. Fitday
 
I've recently combined the paleo and zone diets. I've been using the crossfit journal article located in the FAQ to stay in the zone. I just entered everything i ate today into the fitday.com calculator. According to fitday.com I am not in the zone. Macronutrient ratios are as follow: Protein 199g. Carbs - 206g.
Fat - 117g. 32% Protien 30% carbs 30% fat 39%. Why is the crossfit journal block chart not 'zoned' in. Does the discrepancy matter? Is this the chart the reference guide the elite crossfitters are using? Thanks.

This is the problem with zone. A food might count as 1 block of X nutrient, but nothing is said about the other nutrients. Eg Peanut butter counts as a fat block but also contains some protein and carbohydrates.

There realistically isn't many foods in the world that are only 1 nutrient. I did thoroughly look into zone when I began crossfit, but end up going with paleo + extras.

What are you actually trying to achieve though - lose weight, gain weight, something else? Whats your current height / weight? With this info people may be able to advise you a better course of action.

I agree with Dave, and I've also found some discrepancies among different tracking programs & philosophies. I think it's best to learn to eyeball approximate proportions and don't worry too much about percentages. Your body is an organism, not a machine, so it can handle different proportions of fuel just as it can handle different stressors and tasks. It's a process to get to know your body, but it's very rewarding.

I go with a hunk of protein or eggs, fill the majority of the rest of the plate with fibrous veggies doused in coconut oil or butter, sometimes avocado, then add some starchier veggies like beets/carrots/sweet potato/squash, and sometimes garnish with high-quality cheese, nuts or berries.

Oh - and from my experience, the elite CrossFitters run the gamut from Paleo, eat-whatever-I-want, Paleo + dairy, Paleo-Zone-ish, and pretty much everything else under the sun.
