Sand Bag Question

Has anyone tried to make sandbags out of waterproof military bags? I haven't seen these, but here is a quick description. The person is asking $6 per bag. Seems like a much cheaper option than some of the others I've seen.

MATERIAL: HEAVY DUTY RUGGED RUBBER-BACKED MATERIAL
FEATURES: STURDY CORDED DRAW STRING CLOSURE, 1-1/2 HEAT SEALED SEAMS, ONE SEAM BAG, CIRCULAR SEAM AT BASE JOINING SIDE TO BASE

MANUFACTURER - ARCHER RUBBER COMPANY

Re: Sand Bag Question

I think you'll like the military duffel bags better. They're made of a thicker material and have a fold-over top closure with a carabiner-type clip that will stay closed when dropped. Cut off the handle and the straps for more of a challenge. You can find them cheap at military surplus stores or online.

Here's an example:

The drawstring closure on the waterproof bags won't withstand repeated drops with a heavy load inside, and the material is a little too thin.

I made a few of these for my affiliate a while back using the methods in this guide:

The bags need to be retied occasionally, but otherwise they've held up very well in a year of regular use.
