Um, no. This workout requires the clean to start from the floor, which means that if you deadlift then do a hang clean you haver failed to meet the standard since a clean is one fluid lift and a deadlift plus hang clean is two lifts. It's ok to muscle, power, or split clean but not hang clean. When hang clean is acceptable, it's stated as such.
Can you please point-out where it is stated that it must be "one fluid lift"? If that's part of the standard, or if there is anywhere that they specifically mention "no hang cleans", then I missed it. Just because you're interpreting it that way doesn't make it true unless specified.

The standard:
A muscle clean, power clean, squat clean or split clean may be used, as long as the barbell comes up to the shoulders, with the hips and knees fully extended with the feet in line and the elbows in front of the bar.

No mention of one fluid lift!

The very definition of a clean is one fluid lift, and the instructions specify that you have to start reps from the floor. I promise you that hang cleans will be disallowed in online judging. HQ always specified when hang position is required or allowed in events in my experience.

I seriously doubt anyone will care. Really are you guys still arguing about this ? As far as I can see a DL to hang clean is fine.

It doesn't matter what online judges say. There are tons of videos where people are using the wrong weights, doing the incorrect pull-up for their age group, etc and they have multiple thumbs down, but their scores are still counted.

I am not sure arguing is the right word, but I guess I am sensitive given that I am a highly experienced judge with experience programming competitions, serving as judging director, judging the Open multiple years as well numerous competitions, and judging many competitions with everything from first time competitors to elite athletes. There is a circle of people who pay a lot of attention to this stuff, and I'm one of them.

As to what is happening with thumbs down on online judging, the way I understand that is that games staff review things with sufficient thumbs down and then make adjustments. Seems like it can take some time for them t get to it though. I tend to judge in person a lot more than online though.

Having done as you have a hang clean can start from the floor for every rep.

The problem we face is HQ did not specifically define this to the nth degree.

How one cleans it doesn't matter as long as they clean it and every rep starts from the floor.

Had they been more specific it would have been great but they didn't.

At any comp I've judged or helped lead judge we always demonstrate and show what is and isn't allowed. We are very specific. Here they weren't which allows for any variation of a clean provided it starts each rep from the floor.

I don't spend time online judging. The first year we had that option I quickly realized how much of a pain it was and decided I would rather skip that and spend time with my family.

Shawn, I just had a lightbulb about what you meant in how to hang clean and still technically meet requirements. I still disagree that it's what's intended but you make sense.

The main competition that I direct judging for, we actually do videos demonstrating things. We don't have Brooke in our videos, but they are still pretty good and thorough!

As you said before, by definition, a clean is from the floor to front rack in one smooth motion. So if you do a deadlift and then a hang clean, that would not be a clean, and would be illegal in weightlifting.

However, I have no idea what the official crossfit hq rules are so it's a moot point until they specify

Here is my guess for 15.5

1. There will be pistols at the beginning of the RXed WOD
2. There will be an ascending thruster latter
3. It will be a chipper... For time (with time cap)

Here is my best guess
15.5
For time (25min cap)
10 pistols each leg (can alternate)
50 thrusters 75lbs
20 box jumps 30" (no step ups allowed)
40 thrusters 95lbs
30 swings 2pood/70lb/36kg KB
30 thrusters 135lbs
40 burpees to 6" target
20 thrusters 155lbs
50 cal row
10 thrusters 185lbs
Each rep not completed adds 1 second to the score

Scaled (25 min cap)
20 step ups onto box
50 thrusters 45lbs
20 box jumps 24" (step ups allowed)
40 thrusters 75lbs
30 swings 35lbs/1pood/16kg kb
30 thrusters 95 lbs
40 standard burpees
20 thrusters 95lbs
row 50 calories
10 thrusters 95lbs
Each rep not completed adds 1 second to the score
