What happened to CLB? 33rd on event 2?
Grunt work is not her thing, she is very good at all the technical type movements and has much improved endurance however picking stuff up and moving it around in a wheelbarrow is likely not something she has ever done. Kind of like Noah Olsen.

So the Australian athletes who all likely have spent a pile of time swimming in the ocean did really well at the beach event........I am shocked.

This would be like the advantage a pile of the Canadians might have if ice skating came up.

I like the idea of swimming, but the open water (especially the ocean) is a game changer, there are a lot of people for whom this is completely impractical.

Swimming in the pool is a lot more equalized.

^^ it's really not. it's one out of like 13-15 events throughout 4 days. i haven't done the math but the commentators said something like the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the games that had swimming events averaged 9th or 10th in finishing the swims.

not anymore advantageous than wheel barrow, or spike hammering, or baseball toss, etc., over the course of the week.

-----

thoughts/guesses on final events for the masters/teens? i'm thinking combinations of the girls (elizabeth / isabel / fran) like in 2012 finals.

speaking of koski -- i love the personalized 'Leader' shirt!

i wonder if both koski and chad mackay get to have one on friday for Murph (both with 168 points but koski is listed first on the leaderboard).

This was true in the past, but I'm not so sure about this year. I was actually talking about this same subject on Facebook yesterday. It used to be that Wednesday was a day you would see athletes at the top of the leader board whose names you wouldn't hear the rest of the weekend. Yesterday, at the beach, most of the favorites to be in contention for the podium were finishing in or near the top 10, with both of the winners (Koski, Webb) being among them. It really shows the evolution of the sport and the way that athletes prepare.
16 y/o Paladino has a listed C&J 1RM of 315#.

THREE FIFTEEN.

I'm tapdancing around humbling, motivating and demoralizing reading about these kids. They're amazing.
Not as demoralizing as you think.
At 16 years a body can be already mature or still in development.
Those guys competing are in the 10% of the 16 years boys with an adult body. Genetics, hormone levels, ... play a big part.
"Normal" guys can't have this kind of muscle mass at 16, even with a lot of food and a lot of serious weight training.

I don't try to take away the work they put to be at this level at such a young age, I think you see my point here.

some really angry comments about the missing coverage of the relay event (see the relay event highlights video page).

it was probably just some technical difficulties; and comments like:

"That highlight sucked! Worst coverage of the games this year!"

makes me  and think back to the days when you had to trawl youtube for shaky cam footage filmed with a potato just to get a glimpse of the events.

now, if they start charging for these live streams, then i could understand expecting perfection (or at least your money's worth). As it stands, it's pretty frickn' awesome compared to what "worst coverage" used to be.
