Re: My Midlife Crisis

I rested all day as I rode the train to Portland. I did use the CoC Trainer: R; 6, 4,(reversed) 0. L: 4,2,(reversed) 0. I need to reverse that grip trainer more often. It's a completely different exercise.

I am looking forward to some good running workouts up here in their parks. I also have a complementary 24 Hr Fitness membership the first three days of my stay, which I will put to good use.

I did the Main Site WOD.

As many rounds as possible of

5 Thrusters
7 hang power cleans
10 sumo deadlift high pulls

All with 95 pounds.

I did 5 rounds as Rx'd. This was by far the most painful workout I have done to date. My forearms, shoulders and back were hurting like crazy after the first round. I had to force myself to keep going. But I do feel a sense of accomplishment.
I was at the 24 Hr Fitness in Portland. Even the people working out look way different here. Bakersfield: huge guy bench pressing 350. Portland: rail thin guy doing unsupported hand stand and rolling to the lotus position.

I took the day off. I did use the CoC Trainer (reversed).

R:2,0,0
L:0,0,0

I wasn't just agonizingly sore, but a little, and I am trying to avoid overtraining. I will do some sprinting tomorrow.

I went to the park by the river to do some sprints. I ran approximately 40 yard sprints at maximum all out sprint speed for seven repetitions. It was a very intense full body workout. You could really feel the explosive and ballistic nature of that exercise.

After the workout, while I was recovering, a group of homeless guys started hassling me. It just goes to show, no matter how big or strong I get, I am still a bad guy magnet.

It certainly gives me motivation. :) I walked away and let it ride.

I could feel the soreness from those sprints everywhere in my body. That type of running definitely requires overall strength. It just shows you why Olympic sprinters look so muscular. Today is a rest day for me.

We have done some interesting things here on Portland: an Irish singer Wednesday night, a soccer game Thursday night, a "puppet slam" Friday night. It sent chills up my spine when the soccer crowd gave the home team a ten minute standing ovation after scoring. The puppet slam was a collection of 8 minute puppet shows that were mostly hysterical. Good times. :-)
