Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Here is an idea, as the DL part of the WOD is quiete low weight, how about using a hook grip on those and preserve the "normal" grip for T2B?
EDIT: oh..I see now the lady after the wod gave that exact tip, glad I was thinking in the right direction :) |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I haven't read the rules, but since you can do a workout multiple times and these are scored separately couldn't you just cheese 1 of the 2 and do the workout twice?
For example.. Friday 15 minute clock perform 15 hardcore...skimp 15a with a low score. Submit score. Monday(or whenever) perform 15 skimpy say 1 rep. Work for a really good clean and jerk. Submit Score. Did i miss something about this isnt allowed? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
You have to do both workouts together. You cant submit 15.1 from one day along with 15.1A from another.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I said you would do them both together but since they are scored separately and verified twice would the better score from each workout be your best score and thus the score you are ranked with?
Or will the system only allow you to put in your score once? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Awesome thanks for the info Kevin, I am sure there were already lots of athletes thinking the same thing I did.
I am not doing the open this year, but good luck to those whore are. |

I think HQ anticipated that kind of gaming and wanted to make it very clear that it wouldn't be allowed. I wouldn't be surprised if people still try though. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
So here's the question...do you get prize money for winning ALL of 15.1 (including 15.1A) or is there prize money for each 15.1 and 15.1A? Maybe someone with no shot at regionals stands around for 9minutes, and then hits an insane C+J, wins 15.1A, gets $2,015.

Interesting question. If they are separate it would be worthwhile for the worlds best C&J could just pony up $20 to enter the open and then stand around for 9 min and then do one C&J for $2015. Easy pay day. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Tie break for C&J is the one with the lower body weight from your games profile. I wonder how many people are looking for fractional plates?

As in Ilya Ilyin should enter a score...............anyone think they can beat even his regular training day C and J ? I believe he is usually good for about 500#, that would be hilarious. Easy $2015 for him if he was interested though. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
That was a surprise. Seems that the two were battling each other. Wonder what place 224 reps will end up.. with that clean and jerk will stay towards the top of the leader board. T2B workout for sure.
I am sure that someone will knock it out of the park 15.1 but will not have a great Alpha.. and vice versa.. Overall sure Rich will be fine. Castro asked him if he would do it again he said no. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
That would be amazing to see Klokov or Ilya sign up, stand around, and smash a huge clean and jerk for $2015.
Or if not them, I see no reason why some top US weightlifters in the upper weight classes can't do the same thing, especially if they work with crossfitters a lot and know about the open. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I hope that does not happen and that CF HQ implemented some sort of protection to prevent it.
It would go against what CF is as somebody would win that is only very very very good at once thing and sucks at another -> not a CF athlete, but a specialist weightlifter, they already have a sport to compete in. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
do you think anyone from the women side will be able to beat Camille on this workout? it seems like this workout was tailor made for her.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
They will probably make it the winner of the day gets the money, as in whoever is in 1st place after this dual workout
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I am sure its the dual workout.. they think of just about everything.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I've been looking around, and couldn't find any info on the custom leader board. Is it not working for 2015? I can't seem to get it to work correctly.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Btw someone has posted a #390 Jerk. #235 for the women atm which is still about #20+ off Camille's best.

wfs actually Actually skimmed through barbell shrugged video tips, it was funny toward the end but a lot of it is no duh stuff. I still the Outlaw guide is better. BBS had some kinda mini WOD BS as a warmup to 15.1. F that, just warm up the movements after a general warmup. It was like Airdyne repeats and I heard "Rounds" and skipped ahead. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Interesting to see Khalipa ahead of Rich on this one...
Jason lewis is 1st in 15.1A, doing 396 on C&J and only 1 rep at 15.1. this looks ridiculous and a mockery of himself. |

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Is there a way to sort the leaderboard to see the top scores for just 15.1 or just 15.1a?
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I think HQ hit this one out of the park.
They make it so it is a great all around test, and it pulls in guys and gals who might normally never do this for a shot at some $$ off a max c&j. We get to be the lucky ones and watch videos of people posting videos of them. There are more people who will take notice of this because of the workout and other possible ones down the pipe. In the end what is a few extra 2k$ for them for added people involvement and watching? |

All I see on the custom leaderboard page is "Will be back soon." I don't know the story behind that....? The marketing before the Open said that you would be able to do a custom leaderboard with your friends, so I expect it to be working during the 2015 Open.
Is there a way to sort the leaderboard to see the top scores for just 15.1 or just 15.1a?
Click on the "SORT" dropdown list and change it to "OPEN WEEK 1" for top scores of 15.1 or "OPEN WEEK 1A" for top scores of 15.1a. The fact that they put the word "weekly" in there makes me believe that one prize for a combined 15.1 and 15.1a will be awarded. I doubt you can win prize money by doing 1 rep of 15.1 and killing 15.1a, as some on the leaderboard have done. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Says Rich is on Team Mayhem Freedom, I've heard of Hobart of course, but I'm not familiar with the other names on the list, does anyone have any info on them, and could they possibly be a contender this year with their current roster?

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Leaderboard sorting by country isnt working for me.
Which is kinda a shame as it would be nice to compare to countrymen instead of region (for us, european) |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I think we will see another 2 part workout later on in another week, but with the 2nd part being a skill test, rather than a strength test. Maybe something like max muscle ups in 2 minutes (or c2b or pull ups, depending on division). I sure hope so, because 1rm clean and jerk is not really fair for smaller and lighter athletes.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Looking at my Masters div (M50-54), why are people competing in scaled and getting scores of over 200 reps and 200lbs? If you can do that, why are you competing in the scaled division? Like this guy... http://games.crossfit.com/athlete/125965 WFS. Why would he compete in scaled???? Anyone?

Maybe he can't do Toes to Bar? Maybe he's sandbagging. Pretty much any competition like this with different classes you will have this. The people at the top of the lower class should probably be competing in the higher class. |

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I find it absolutely believable that an athlete could do 100+ knee raises and not do any TTB. The mechanics are very, very different and the difference in pulling up just knees versus getting your legs all the way up is huge. I could do the knee raises all day - my score was limited by having almost no grip. And there are far better athletes than my at my gym with the same issues.

Here is your answer: http://games.crossfit.com/article/full-effort-expected-151-and-151a (wfs)
After seeing several cases of team competitors blatantly ignoring the triplet in order to focus solely on lifting heavy, CrossFit Games organizers have decided to invalidate the efforts of more than 20 athletes whose performances clearly strayed from the intent of the two-part workout. Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Im king of the dumb questions but here it goes; while im planning on filming my 15.1 workout if i choose to be judged by an individual can it be by someone who understands the movement standards or does it have to be by an approved judge from say an affiliate?

If you are submitting a video to be judged online then only registered judges that passed the course are allowed to mark it as good/needs review/invalid. If you are not doing the workout at an affiliate, you MUST choose this option. If you're doing it at an affiliate, then usually anyone can judge you during the workout, although it's the affiliate's responsibility to make sure anyone judging understands the standards. The affiliate manager, who must have passed the judge's course, then validates your score. They're basically certifying that all the judges at their box understand the standards and properly held the athletes to them. |

^This. We have lots of people who can do knee raises all day but no TTB. The last 30% of the full movement is pretty tough for most people. |

I have a girl at my gym who has a great engine but does not have TTB. She scored 216 on the scaled workout with knee raises on Friday. If she had attempted RX Friday it would of been 9 minutes of failing reps. She has now learnt TTB which is the magic of the open, makes people that are close to achieving things finally push that little extra or put a few extra hours of practice. And tonight she attempts it RX. So basically your wrong, it does not mean somebody is sandbagging just because they can knock out 100s of knee raises and not hit a TTB. |
