Warm-Up 10 minutes of jump rope drills 3 circuits: 5 strict DH pull-ups, 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 10 squats with hold on last one at bottom 10 minutes of dynamic stretching and calf/hip/shoulder mobility work Main Workout Tabata "Bottom to Bottom" Squat, then run 1 mile Clock starts for run on rising from last squat. Ran 1/2 mile to the HS track 13 squats (15/14/13/13/13/13/13/13) 7:03 (performed outdoors on the HS track) Ran 1/2 mile home Bench Press: 10x45#, 10x135#, 5x185#, 5x210#, 4x240# Warm-Down Shoulder stretching For the most part, felt pretty good today. B2B squats were fine initially, but then my first couple of squats were slow ones to stretch my legs out a bit and that's when I went from 15 to 13 per tabata. The last two rounds hurt a bit. I was a bit disappointed I didn't go below 7 minutes on the run, but I need a bit more practice pacing myself on the track (unlike the treadmill where you can just dial in your goal and hang on for the ride). Overall, I feel ok about the effort. My left shoulder was a bit sore doing bench presses, but the results were ok. I've never tried more than 250# before but will try to beat that next week, along with (hopefully) new PRs on deadlifts and shoulder presses. Ok, time to start celebrating. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! |
Re: Over 50 Crossfitters Sign In
I wrote down the workout this AM and never got to it. Good active family time w. daughters and grandsons. We've done a hike, one trip to playground, decorated ornaments, decorated a tree, and plan 2nd trip to playground. The 5 year old just learned to go hand over hand across an elevated ladder from one platform to another. This made me as proud as when I saw him take his first step.
Hope that you all have a great holiday. |

Enjoying Christmas Eve with the "Kids" and Grandkids! Took them Sledding today and then it started raining so while everyone was watching videos I set about splitting and stacking the last 2 cords that I had hauled out of the woods!-My shoulders are a bit trashed from swinging the splitting mall  My youngest son after dinner decided he would do an evening WO with the ole man so I "took him to the wood shed" (so to speak)

Happy Holidays everyone!!
Unintentional rest all week; kids needed me for this and that every night. Deadlifted on the 24th that was about it. Sunday 12.26.10 Gym is usually closed, got an email Im invited to Coach's bday WOD today so I went. We're having a blizzard - who knows if training is a go tomorrow. Got a feeling Jim C and I could be shoveling snow for time!!! We're not supposed to get as much where I live, Delaware Water Gap, they're calling for over a foot down there (careful what you wish for jim :)) Warmup: just a few squats and lunges.... not enough room!! I forgot my balls too. Got weightlifting shoes for xmas, wonder if I should've worn them. WOD: Pat's Birthday 95#/55# 3 rounds: •13 Power Snatch •13 OHS 25 Body Blasters (burpee/pullup/knee to elbow) 3 rounds: •13 power clean •13 push press 50 burpee box jump 20" 3 rounds: •13 SDHP •13 Pullups 71 Kettlebell swings 32/16kg 37:xx Pullups & KB swings - grip was gone at the end, did 75 swings. Other than my coach, who scaled up to 65#, no other girls Rxd this one... Not that happy with the time it didn't seem that hard... got it done. |
Re: Over 50 Crossfitters Sign In
Great work Deb~ and the rest of you. Looks like a lot of you are persevering through the in-climate weather and the temptation to over indulge during the Holidays.
Must say I have not been as consistent as I could be (while away from the gym and home) I have been nagged by a lot of muscle strain and minor injuries that are really causing a "battlefield" in my mind! I am considering finding a professional sports physical therapist after the first to do a comprehensive evaluation of my muscular condition/ROM from a medical standpoint (any suggestions) from the rest of you "more seasoned athletes" is welcomed. Seems that most of the guys I workout with including my Coach/box owner are less than half my age and are not used to working with us older folks. I do intend to maintain consistent effort in this coming year and do even a better job with nutrition. Thanks to all of you for a great year of encouragement and comradely Be Blessed! |
Re: Over 50 Crossfitters Sign In
Nice job on the workout Deb (it looked tough!), and you're right about the snow! :yikes: I don't mind though, reminds me of being back in Canada. There will be quite a lot of shoveling over the next 24 hours though.
December 26 Swim Workout 1x400 yds (warm-up, untimed) 2x200 yds (3:30, 3:25) 4x100 yds (1:35-37) 6x50 yds (0:41-44) Skill Work 10 minutes of jump rope practics Power cleans: 3x135#, 1x155#, 1x175# (tied PR), 185# (F) Necessary Work Shoveled 4" of snow with my son (30 minutes). One more snow circuit tonight and then probably another very big one in the morning. Swim felt good and the times are starting to drop. Jumping rope felt good, power cleans sucked. I thought I would get 185# easy, but need to be a bit quicker and aggressive dropping under the bar. More practice needed. I think I will add this to the 5-3-1 weekly rotation. |

We got about 19 inches of snow. I was just about to break my record of 10 consecutive DUs when it broke. I had to switch to my final rope, a Fitness Gear one and, surprisingly, I liked it (it was easier to get going). Got a bunch of 9s in a row but kept choking on #10. DUs are slowly getting better, but its time to order some replacement ropes. DT was tough, but I was happy with my improvement versus last time. Smashed my nose really hard with the bar during round three of the "DT" push jerks and saw stars and scraped my nose up a bit. Good fun!:smiley_ev |

Looks like everyone's workouts are great. I have been sick with a chest and head cold for the last 3+ days. My appetite really decreased. Went back to work today. Things are getting better as the day goes on. Hope to be back into working out over the weekend. One thing that has happened with so many days off--all those little aches that nag at you when you work out---they are all gone. I plan to start the mobility WOD tonight and continue with it daily whether I am at the gym or not. I have logged too many hours in my LazyBoy!

I still don't feel right!!! Went to local globo to just do strength. Disappointing session. blew it Christmas week; messed up my %s. (I need my schedule to get back to normal, get it together, pick a goal & be consistent already! And CF gym is moving in spring & wondering what am I going to do.) AND I saw a young guy "squatting" - I kept thinking he's going to start - like 5 times, but that was all there was! I kid you not, a good foot above parallel!!! Then donkey kicking and walking around wrecked so I said, oh, it looks heavy. 330# on the bar! That he obviously couldn't squat. I told him my last deep max in the summer was barely half that. Pat - Hope you're feeling better. Sometimes a break will REALLY help your training.
Cliff - great job on that football total. I jealous that you can back squat that even though it wasn't official. Deb - I know what you mean about going to the Globo. They have SO much equipment for SO little results! I've had more improvement in all aspects of my fitness in a year of crossfitting than in a decade of working out at Globos! I used to like Nautilus, now, EH! WU: Row 500m 10 Burpees (Yay! Re: Over 50 Crossfitters Sign In
Just to be clear, this is not whining. I haven't done a workout since a week ago Monday. My otherwise head cold has now evolved into bronchitis much as it does around this time of year almost every year. So as an athlete, my thoughts turn to the consequences of missing so much training time. Rather than end this year on a sour note, I thought that I'd share the following with you all---something I've known for a while, but now find supported by research.

Cliff - awesome job on the CF Football total, are you following the CF football program? The MB race looks fun, I use to MB race when I lived in AZ. Moved back to Cali and live in the Valley so nearest "good" MT biking is a few hours away. Deb - too funny about the young squatter, I am betting there would be many CF women that could out squat him if he went at least to parallel. Re: Over 50 Crossfitters Sign In
i have just been following whatever our coach at the box lays out for us. i did play football in high school and was a gym rat for a bunch of years in my late 20's and early 30's. then i concetrated more on mountain biking and climbing.
my coach and i had breakfast together last week and chatted about the whole heavy weight workout thing. i told him to consider using me as a ginuie pig for the gym after he gets his crossfit football cert which he will have by spring. our town and area in general is lacking in any tpye of organized football program so there is not a real large "strongman" type of culture here. squamish is the "outdoor recreation capital of canada" so there are tons of outdoor individual athletes here and not so many teams. the gym has only been open for 15 months and i have only been crossfitting for 12 months. of those 12 only 10 have been injury free. i will be calling the surgeon tuesday to see if they have a date for my shoulder surgery. once i have that surgery i can resume strenght training within 2 weeks. after that i can hardly wait to see just what i can do. |

Hit a PR for weight over the holiday, 168.5#. Yikes! Otherwise, basically slept 10 hours a day and ate a bunch of yummy but unhealthy food. Only Augie and I showed up at 6 am! What's up with everybody?! BS 165-195-225 1K Row 4:07 4 rounds plus pull-ups. The time off really showed, this was harder than it should have been. The Claw |

Looks like you guys ate your Wheaties over the holidays.
I drank BEER, Jack Daniels straight up, & ate some cookies.... it shows!:p back to the grind. 01.03.2011-Monday-Day 1 Warmup: Row 500 (1:57), squats, lunges, stretching (forgot my back and shoulder stuff) WOD: Complete as many rounds as possible in 15:00 of: 15 ring dips 5 burpees 15 kettlebell swings - 24kg (16kg) cash-out - 3:00 to get max effort thruster (1 rep max) 6 Rds + 9 skinny band. Disappointing! There were people who got 8-9 rounds on the bands, hard to believe their dips were full ROM?? (The firebreathers only got 5-7!!). I try to go slow & deep on every one, got rougher the last 2 rounds. I guess its all relative. Slowest burpees ever. Cashout: Fubar'd this - my coach wanted me to start at 65#. No rack, had to load your own bar (PITA), started right away at a weight Ive made before (115#), cleaned easily & missed! Ran out of time & wound up stripping it to 95#. I should've waited till the end of the 3 mins, or started lower. Lesson learned. |

Bill, I've never done a marathon, but did tri's 10 years ago. Congrats on the DL PR. That's a serious weight!
January 3 Swim Workout At Lunch 1x400 yds (untimed) 2x200 (3:33,3:28), 2 min rest interval 4x100 (1:35,1:37, 1:36, 1:36), on 3 minutes 6x50 (3 @ 0:42,3 @ 0:41), on 90 secs After Work Warm-Up 10 minutes of jump rope drills 10 minutes of stretching and some pull-ups, push-ups and squats WOD "Murph" For time: 1 mile Run (up and down a hill), 100 Pull-ups, 200 Push-ups, 300 Squats, 1 mile Run (up and down a hill) 32:34 (unweighted, PR by 4:35) 8:36 (mile 1), 15:35 (20 rounds of Cindy), 8:23 (mile 2) 14 consecutive DUs during warm-up (PR by 2). Big PR on Murph, despite running at night with traffic, pot-holes, etc. Can't run as fast at night on that road. There are a lot of pot holes and cars keep their high beams on, blinding me so I can't see anything. Wasn't really pushing it hard all of the time on Murph, just maintaining a steady pace. Swimming felt good today as well. |
