2017 Games thread

Who's going to win.. can anyone beat Matt F, CF Mayhem, Katrin?

Everyone's going to be Run/Swim/Run.. anyone at this level can't swim or can't make it.. all the masters are going to swim also.. about time right?

Any db/dip fast complexes?

Madison.. flop or will it be great?

I doubt anyone will beat Matt F. The women to me is a little more open. I think this could be Tia's year.

Masters and swimming, glad I am not going, I am a terrible swimmer. Bad enough in the pool let alone in open water. But yes, this will be a good test for all.

Madison will be fine. Really only CFers are interested in the Games and they will love it.

Re: 2017 Games thread

I think Fraser is pretty untouchable right now. He's on top until he decides to stop.

There's probably 10 women that could win the Games. Will be fun to watch.

I like the move to the midwest even though I can't get there this year. It shouldn't make much of a difference if any at all.

If you're in the Games at any level, you should be proficient at every movement, including swimming.

Re: 2017 Games thread

1. Fraser
2. Olsen
3. Vellner

1. Sara Sig
2. Katrin Dav
3. Thibault

1. Mayhem
2. Wasatch Brutes
3. Back Bay

I'll always pull for josh. If he can string some consistency together he has the potential.

Fraser is a monster. He is Rich without the small holes he had, it seems.

I think Mayhem will have a tough time this year but that "Froning factor" right...

Not that I have insider info but I bet Sara is hungry. Really hungry.

I think Matt has this one again this year, i do not see any real challengers.

I am really hoping Sara takes it this year, she is so happy all of the time and now that she is at Mayhem working out, Rich has given her some of his secrets :)

Teams... Mayhem must be the favorite and i believe Rich has made the whole team work on their weak spots.

When it comes to Madison..... the athletes make the games and give it the vibe and the fans will be as crazy as usual. Watching the games on youtube won't make any difference to us :D

Maybe the weather is different at this time of year compared to the old venue which may make a difference for everyone.

I am looking forward to it....... :D

Murph should be a bit easier in the cool Madison air. :D

First event, run, swim, run..

If this is like a triathlon and they need to transition through the movements then this will be key and those shorts and shoes will chafer all over the place.

I was hoping that it's a sprint triathlon. Sprint 400m, Swim 100M, Sprint 200M, with the first 400 it's own separate score. Just a pure 5 minutes or so in the pain cave, it would be fun to watch as opposed to a 30 minutes of them doing the same thing over and over.

Dave has started to release more events.... 1RM Snatch as the first event...

C&J for teams....

Also that he mentioned they were building an assault course in Madison but did not say who it was for...

I wonder how many athletes actually test them or do they just stick to their plan...

3 athletes caught this time round...

Now I am wondering why they only got a 2 year suspension when the previous guy from last year got 4 years!

I think if you get caught it should be at least 4 years..... make it hurt over a long period of time.

I have no respect for cheaters

Who was suspended 4 years? The only one I can find from last year was Laura Sweatt (sp?) and she got 2 years.

Trevor B - the video editing guy got 4 years.
Charis Chan also got 4 years.

If you follow "CrossFit" and "CrossFit Games" on Facebook and Instagram, there is plenty of hype there. CrossFit Media has released a bunch of stuff like "A Decade of Fitness," recaps of Regionals, "Road to the Games" episodes, pitches about camping at Madison, the upcoming Team Series....

You've seen the rig for the obstacle course, yes?

It's tan. I'm guessing this is a choice to reduce surface heat compared to a black rig, when outdoor in the sun. Also, it looks pretty awesome set in the sand next to wood obstacles. I wish I could try it out....

The O course does look fun. Is it down and back for the individuals like shown in the demo team video or just one way like in the Boz vs Roe video?

The cyclocross event on the other hand.........

They said this morning during the athlete briefing that if you didn't finish the rope climb over a wall in the middle you aren't out of the games but you can't be on the podium.

Also said anyone that didn't finish the run/swim/run event in time cap was out of the games.

Re: 2017 Games thread

I think it's just one-way for the individuals. They run several heats like a tournament bracket. In each heat the top three athletes advance to the next round. After all heats have run, then next four fastest times of all non-qualifiers will be added to the qualifiers. Kind of like they did the last time there was an obstacle course. If they did down and back multiple times, that would really drag out the event. I think they're looking for it to be more of an all-out charge.

Looking at the description on the games page, 8 heats of 5, top 2 in each move on plus top 4 fastest that weren't in top 2 of their heat. 2nd round will be 4 heats with the winner of each heat moving to finals.
What is a hay bale clean burpee? Hay bale = sand bag?

The MU clean is going to get heavy for most anyone. A few years ago 2012 only 3 guys did 350 or better.. amazing to see how far it has come in oly.

Bike race.. just going to be how fast someone can go with a good pace. Some will go out too fast and die.

I love the O coarse.. seeing the athletics of the peeps will be fun.

Triple G with the 20 reps overhead with the 100's for the men.. after all of the midline stuff.. big ask.
Hay bale clean burpee = 5 rds of 450M run + 11 sand bag cleans over a stack of hay bales then burpee over the bales.

Basically they have bales stacked 3 high I believe, so about up to your chest/neck. You pick up the sand bag (looks like a big ball or lump), throw it over the bales, then burpee and jump over the bales. Repeat for 11 total reps.

No. Castro said there were some he wouldn't announce until the day they do them. I believe one more on Saturday, and at least the finals WOD on Sunday. Right now there is only 2 WOD's for Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Last year there were 2 on Sat and 5 on Sunday (although 3 of those were short sprint work outs).
