Post pics of your home/garage gym

I've been shopping around for items to equip my future garage gym--I need a garage first--and thought others may be interested in a thread compiling pictures/ideas to help get started. I'm planning on using only half the garage at this point. I've bought a C2 rower, jump rope, and rings. I've also been admiring the Pendlay women's bar mentioned in another thread and some bumpers.

I realize there are other threads but one-stop shopping is always nice.

Thanks ahead of time.

I think this was a thread like a month ago or so. Also this thread that is recent is not pictures, but it has lists of what people have. I have not posted pics of mine yet, but will once I get them taken.

Theresa,

Here is a link to a Picasa album of some pictures of my gym (wfs):

http://picasaweb.google.com/sailorcr...ey=0_hiDSIqr-8

There are two ares, one is 12' x 13' where the cage is and the other is about 7' x 12' where the treamill, ghd and some storage is. There is not a lot of room but I have everything I need and room enough to get it done. Sometimes, like the Filthy Fifty, space is at a premium but I just move stuff around. David.

Hey David - You have some nice equipment in those pics.

Did you order everything over the net or do know of a local place that has plyoboxes/dynamax balls/ kettlebells?

Very nice! Where did you get the cage?

David Sailor 04-17-2008 07:23 PM

Re: Post pics of your home/garage gym

The cage and the treamill were the only items I bought locally. The treadmill is a Landice. The cage is a KeysFitness, the wfs link:

http://www.keysfitness.com/index.php...s&model=KPS-PC

I bought it locally in Salem, NH and it's perfect. The height fits fine with the ceiling, I have it centered between the joists. I have easily done over 10,000 pullups on that over the last year or so and the joists have never been a problem.

Everything else from the 'net. Jon Gilson, Rogue Fitnesss, The Gym Store plus some finds on eBay. The clock is easily my favorite item, besides the bar and bumpers. Here's the clock, wfs, link:

http://store.titlemma.com/platinum-pro-timer.html

Yeah, it's a bit pricey but I lift mostly alone and it fits the bill perfectly. Besides, I don't have any other vices so discretionary money goes to gym stuff or stereo stuff. I just got a pair of Klipsch La Scalas that I shoehorned into the gym. They go earbleeding loud if you want but they sound great.

That clock is pretty cool, and once I found out it has a remote, it became even cooler! I'll stick with my Nike watch though!

La Scalas in your gym??:yikes:

My word, what kind of speakers do you have in the house?

BTW..eBay is the way to go for a gym stereo system.

Re: Theresa
Thanks. I gathered up that much stuff because I'd been planning on doing some personal training out of there, though that doesn't seem like it'll work out, so I'm going for a job at a nearby globo-gym. I've been thinking of opening my gym up for use by local CrossFitters, just because I have all the things needed, and it'd be a shame to let it go to waste.

Re: Post pics of your home/garage gym

Bryan,

These are really, really ugly ones. The guy I bought them from called them "UgScalas" and he was right. The sound, though, is amazing. I just upgraded the crossovers and tweeters and will eventually clean up the cabinets. At 36" high, they also make a great box jump!

i started doing crossfit about 2 months ago and realized going to my gym was pointless and a waste of money. here is what i've accumulated since canceling my gym membership.

Olympic Bar & Weights 290lbs (Free from the neighbor)
Kettelbells ($230)
24" Plyobox (Free, built it with stuff around the house)
Parallette Bars ($4, just needed the caps, T's, and corner pieces)
Jump rope ($6)
20lbs Ball ($3 bag of sand, old basketball)
20lbs Dumbells (Found in the basement)

It's a work in progress, but certainly worth it.

I workout by myself and have been using my Ironman Trialthlon watch to time Tabata and FGB workouts, but it is very difficult. I found this timer at gym boss.com that looks like it will work well and it only costs ~$20.

Note: You will need to remove the space between gym and boss to go to the website. It is only one word, but for some reason it gets posted as *******.com when I try to write it out as it is.

That thing looks pretty sweet. I may have to get one of those. to bad I just spent the same amount for just a stop watch.

The website offered a free T-shirt to anyone who posted a promotional thread about the timer on a message board. After many threads of "I love this timer!" the moderators found out why people kept posting new threads about it, then blocked it. Spam isn't cool.

Neat setup, Kurt. Love what you did with that bench press thingamajik. Especially the safety bars. I'm worried about the pull-up bar, though. Don't you headbutt the ceiling when your chin gets over bar?

Awesome thread, by the way. Keep it going.

Re: Post pics of your home/garage gym

Things are looking up for us at SPC-Crossfit. We are in negotiations for a new box, should workout well. Plus, I just signed a contract on a new home. That is all fine and dandy, but the real prize is the 30x40 pole barn that comes on the 3 acres. I am pumped to create a home gym. So pumped that I talked with the baseball coach at the HS and we are going to setup a batting cage (sliding) in there also. Hoping to bring a few baseball players over to CF.

Also, an "if you build it" idea ( I am originally from Iowa, so this makes sense)(Field of Dreams reference for those that didn't get that one)
We are thinking of creating a wiffle ball field, base paths, mound, fence and even a scoreboard. I am 32 and just remember spending hour upon hour playing ball. Plus, it will keep my "future" kids out of the house and away from the cancer of video games.

Thanks for listening to my babble.

Toby,

Did you say build a wiffle ball field?! Then you've got to check this out here in Vermont www.littlefenway.com (wfs) And they just finished Little Wrigley down below!!

Enjoy,
Mark

That is a great link. That is awesome. That is a pipe dream right now, but down the road, maybe. Right now I would just like something to get a game going.

Would be pretty cool to get an "old times" league going. Thanks for the link

Toby

Here's mine.

Recently sold quite a bit of garbage equipment to make space for the real deal. The wife is not always happy about parking outside of our garage but bless her heart for making the compromise!

Here's an updated link to my gym (wfs):

http://picasaweb.google.com/sailorcr...ey=0_hiDSIqr-8

I took out a wall and essentially doubled the space of the gym. A friend came over and we did the "OPT vs Bionic" challenge side by side with plenty of room. Two bars, two rings, two pullup bars and a place for burpees with room to spare.

Nice. Of all the crossfit skills to master, muscle ups, free-standing HSPUs, front levers, etc., welding might be the coolest skill of all.

These are older pictures of my place, but I'm proud of it.

These pictures were taken last March. I've since added a lifting platform, kettlebells (12kg up to 48kg), 500lbs of bumpers, a sled, York boxes, rings, etc.

I have an enloader tire outside and a bunch of various sized natural stones I ocassoionally lift.

The addition, I'm getting for this year are a Werksan Bar very soon. And I'm going to build some jerk platforms to do dead start overhead work.

My friends call it "Muscle Holler."

All the best,
Arden

Enes,
Had to get it for my daughters. I let them pick out some equipment for the gym. The agreed on the mini tramp.

I should have my climbing walls built by this time next year. At least that's my goal. I ran out of money on the insulation, plumbing, etc. But should have enough to finish the building this year. Once I get the walls up, the climbing wall is next - at one point in the far end, I have a cathedral ceiling that's 22 feet high and a place to anchor a pulley system for repelling. I'm a little on the big side to be going to high, but the kids are pysched about it.

I also got my little ones also have a 15lb power systems training bar and a set of 5lb and 3.5kg hi-tech training plates. The 7 year old digs them. The 10 year old is coming around. We're all going to do our first olympic lifting contest this Fall in Morristown PA. Should be both embarassing and fun at the same time.

All the best,
Arden
