I'm kind of already doing the IF thing since I'm not too hungry when I wake up in the A.M. so I have to force myself to eat in order to get my blocks in during the day with the proper amount of spacing in between meals. That and if my 2 year old sleeps until 10 in the morning I'm not getting up until 10. So I really need to just stop eating earlier to get in the 15 hours.

I just started the Zone August 1st, and I feel great. I figure since I'm already pretty much doing the IF I might as well just go for it and give it a try. My questions are:
1- If you are on the Zone and doing IF, do you just stick with the prescribed blocks, say 17 for me, or eat more to compensate for the fast?
2- Can you eat more than 5 blocks in a meal? I know Nicole said don't eat more then 5 in a sitting in the Help me Nicole thread, so I was wondering if I could eat an 8 block meal at dinner to hold me off.

Thanks in advance
Jeremy

1 - If you're doing the 15hr fast, stick with your zone prescription, just eat the same number of blocks in the available time frame. For me, this means a meal/snack every 2 hours (I eat 5-6 times per day).

2 - I think that the reasoning behind the 5 block limit is to avoid spiking insulin which large meals can do. Therefore I'd avoid it. If your prescription is 17 blocks, then you shouldn't need to eat a meal over 5 blocks to get your blocks in.

You could split your day up like this and still finish with a larger 5 block meal to see you through to morning...

10am Breakfast = 4 blocks
12pm Snack = 2 blocks
2pm Lunch = 4 blocks
4pm Snack = 2 Blocks
7pm Dinner = 5 blocks
Fast until 10am = approx 15hrs

Hope that helps.

Awesome, thanks alot Chris. That was exactly what I was looking for. Although I was kind of hoping to be able to get that 12oz steak in for dinner. Thanks Again

Here's what I've been doing (I'm a 19 blocker).

10am: 5 blocks
1pm: 4 blocks
4pm: 5 blocks
7pm: 5 blocks

Next question, what is the minimum time between eating to avoid an insulin spike. I ask because when I go to work I just can't take enough vegetables to fill me up without walking in the building with grocery bags full of food for 2-3 meals. So I take mostly fruit, which is far less filling. But after a 15 hour fast and a 5 block meal I'm still a bit hungry. Just curious, I'm far from withering away and I can wait 2-3 hours.

The question is what's the minimum wait between meals to avoid a spike?

According to this site, in a normal healthy individual, blood sugar levels should be back to normal 2 hours after starting a meal.

Whether this means you could eat sooner, I don't know.

Thanks for the info.

I've done 2 hours apart before with no issues.

where can i get more information about the fast? i just read enter the zone and have been trying to get as much info as possible to make sure im doing this right.

im going from 2 meals a day to 5 so its a little difficult at first. also im worried about this evening snack because my dinner is usually so late i end up eating the snack pretty close to bed time. how much time should there be between the last thing i eat and when i go to sleep. i know some of this sounds like im getting into the weeds but curious

From what I've read here:

and last months Performance Menu. There are a couple more threads just search IF and it should come up. The rule is 3 hours before bed. Just set your watch to beep every 2 hours to remind you to eat. I lay out all my meals the night prior so I'm ready to go when it's time to eat.

And thanks to the 2 Chris's for your responses.
