Can anyone tell me if hyperextension is contraindicated when doing a back extension? In the exercise video on the website she has her knees bent and hips resting on the pad and goes into hyperextension, but on the hip extension example she stays parallel. Is hyperextension bad or does it really matter?

if there's no pre-existing condition, there's really no problem hyperextending reasonably in that position. in a structurally-loaded lift, e.g. deadlift, hyperextension is a little dicey, although not necessarily problematic if not extreme.
