Trooper Joshua D. Miller

Josh was a professional, hard-charging trooper and former Marine. It is with great sadness that I ask you to write his name on your hand: Josh was killed in the line of duty last night. He was a friend and I admired and respected him very much. Although today is a very bad day for our Department, it's much worse for Josh's family. Think of them today.

So sorry to hear about his loss. I watched the news this morning and was saddened by the story. I'll write his name on my hand for tomorrow's WOD.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
I've not posted in this thread before, as it's not an appropriate forum for my usual smart-a**edness. However, I think it's a beautiful thing and I'm really glad that you started it, Robert.

I just found out that a good friend of mine, whose name is Shawn, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma... he's going in for his first chemo treatment this Friday, and they'll decide then whether or not to additionally do radiation therapy.

He's 23, bright, kind, and not a little aggressive (which is probably why we're good friends). He's a fighter and we're all extremely positive about his future, but if anyone else wants to add his name to their next WOD, I'd be grateful.

I have a date with a big tractor tire and sledgehammer this evening, and Shawn, Pamela, Rick, and as many others as I can fit on will be there, too...
Just wanted to post an update:

Shawn is doing really well! He's wiped out by the chemo, of course, but the prognosis was good enough that he's not undergoing any radiotherapy, which rocks. He's only got three months of treatment left.

Also, a friend of mine's father is in a bad way; my buddy is very private about it, so I don't feel comfortable posting details. But, his dad's name is Patrick, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind anyone sending him some good wishes and energy via a barbell, pullup bar, or similar. :)

I'll be taking Patrick, Shawn, and as many others as I can fit on with me to the box this evening for 5 rounds of 75lbs thrusters and double-unders, 21 reps of each.
Hey Folks- I've got a buddy who just had a massive heart attack yesterday. He's stable now, but got a long road to go before he's better. I know he could use all the help he can get. Please include him in your thoughts. His name is Dave.

Thanks!
Wow!! What a difference a few days makes. Dave was "out" for a very long time. I've heard some of the odd of him making it. Only 10% of the people who have a heart attack make it to the hospital alive. Of those, only 1% actually survive. Dave is a very luck man. He not only made it thru this, but he is already home and recovering.

Thanks to all of you who helped.

Now, Looks like there are still lot's of folks out there hurting. So, let's get them some good vibes going.

Please keep my friend, Rick, in your thoughts. Saturday night he was walking from a restaurant past a grocery store and he was stabbed by a drunk. The drunk apparently mistook him for someone else in the attack. The blade was well over 6" long and sliced through two of his ribs, his stomach, and his liver. He has a very long recovery ahead of him. Yes, they caught the guy, but that won't make Rick heal any more quickly. He is in very rough shape.

Robert,
Thank you for starting this!! What an awesome idea!

I will pass this idea along, especially to one of my closest friends, Camari, who has survived breast cancer twice. She is also a FF, & CF'er. This girl is tough! Even during chemo, she still smoked everyone in CF workouts.

Camari was featured in a book called "Hope Stories", in which a local photographer donated her time in making a collection of local breast cancer survivors.

(scroll down to see Camari's pic...scroll down a bit more to see what the photographer wrote about the book)

I'd also like to add Christy to the list, she is the sister of my supervisor & friend, who is currently battling cancer.

It's been forever since I posted, I know, but I wanted to drop in and ask that y'all write Brian Kercheval's name on your hands. He's the son of a good friend of my b/f, and he's battling cancer, and is not expected to last much longer.

On a happier note, my friend Shawn, who I posted about a bit further up the thread, is doing really well! He's actually gained some weight while on chemotherapy! Keep passing on the good vibes, please!

Cheers,
FD

Just to update those who kept my dad in their thoughts, prayers, and workouts in the past. He passed away on June 2nd.

God bless all who are battling disease, those who are loving and supporting them, and those who are trying to deal with the loss of a loved one.

Theresa, I am so sorry to hear that. You & your family are in my thoughts & prayers.
Frank, I will do that for Brian. Thank you for letting us know & the update on Shawn.

I know it's a main site rest day. But for the rest of you that get your programming done at an affiliate or are a few days behind.

My friend Lindsay Hawkins recently gave birth to a baby and she has had some complications since the pregnancy and had to go back to the hospital already with what they think is postpardom congestive heart failure.

All best wishes, thoughts, prayers would be great right now.

Just an update; Shawn just got his latest PET scan and it looks like the tumor is gone! He's got another few chemo sessions, then he's in the clear! I know everyone's energy helped!

Please also keep Brian in your thoughts and workouts...

Didn't realize that I had not posted an update or checked messages in a while...

Thanks to Heather for checking in :)

My wife is doing much better. We went in for one issue (completely benign) and ended up treating something else. Now it's just a matter of weaning her off the medication, as it's taken this long for her to be ready for the commitment. We started tracking 9/1, and she's kept with the diet/exercise/other changes everyday.

Love the community support, and I've got a fresh batch of sharpies in my garage ready for my next workout.

Robert,

Way to hang in there. The chemo really ravages your body, I know my hubby went through the same 2 years ago. He also stayed positive and is doing much better now. The "write this name on your hand" request is wonderul & one I will begin to do as well.

I'm a newbie to the CF community but have been doing basically the same type of trngs for some time. I just didnt know that there was an organized group of "crazies" with an official name out there. Who knew????

Best wishes

Re: Write this name on your hand

One of our own:

http://amandaredmiller.blogspot.com

Amanda is a beast. She competed at the Games this year. I had the amazing fortune of being her roommate for a couple of months, and I owe her an enormous debt of gratitude for lighting the fire under my @$$ and making me not fart around so much with fitness. She is an incredible person with an enormous heart and a positive outlook on life that sometimes borders on insanity. She has everything working in her favor except she is now a Stage IV cancer patient.

Her name will be on my hand for every WOD until she has this beaten.

I'm late to the party too but absolutely believe that the people putting out the positive vibes benefit as much as those receiving them. What a GREAT thread!

His name is Rowdy. He is 6. He spent the first four years of his life "in a bubble". For the first time since then he went back in the hospital and in in an induced coma while they drain his lungs. He coded two nights ago but is holding strong.

Rowdy.

Thanks! :)

Re: Write this name on your hand

Amanda Miller passed away on Friday. She was one of the athletes who competed at the CrossFit Games last year. She had every intent to compete again this year, not as an individual athlete, but representing her affiliate in the affiliate cup. She just ran out of time. She lost an 8 month battle against melanoma.

I had the incredible fortune of being her roommate for a good chunk of 2009, taking her from her post-Games prep through her surgery to remove the first tumor. We became close and I got to see up close and in person just what it takes to build a beast. That determination and mental hardness is what allowed her to fight so long. The odds were against her from the start, and she never wanted to be classified as "terminal", even when she was battling hepatic failure for months on end.

She had a heart of gold and always wanted to do the right thing in everything she did. She motivated so many people both in her good times and after she became symptomatic, to push harder, lift harder, run faster. I know she lit a fire under my rump when we met. I remember it was the first time I was swinging a 24 kg KB, and she just yelled at me to make it my b****.

I ran in a 200 mile relay this weekend. I could pretty much hear her telling me she thought I was crazy, and then asking if she could run it with me next year. Well, she ran it with me this year, yelling at me to get up that hill, chew up those miles, and blow it all out in the last 800 m of each leg.

Rest easy, Amanda. You'll kick my a** again when my days are up.

The Kaan family. Daryl Kaan died Saturday in a freak scuba diving accident. His partners think he may have had a heart attack during their ascent from 150 ft. We'll be doing a WOD for his family tomorrow morning. He is survived by his wife Tina, and sons Nathaniel and Christian.

Happy Training, and thanks

My friend Johanna.
She lost her mother several months ago and now she's checked herself into the hospital for observation. She's battled with mental/behavioral disorders her entire life.
Be strong Jo.

My friend's cousin, Dave recently got in a motorcycle accident and broke three vertebrae in his neck. They're moving him to a rehab center to get back use of his limbs, which will probably happen since he has some feeling in them. My friend Victor and Dave don't do crossfit, but they do do parkour and they're both very active individuals. Please write Dave's name on your hand. I have Fight Gone Bad in two days as a weight training final, and i'll write his name on my hand during that.

thanks.

Lindsay Babb, a fellow Crossfitter, and one of my teammates, was murdered last Tuesday. Linday, our forwards captain, was an incredibly rugby player, she was witty, had a beautiful singing voice, and was always there for her friends. Everyone that ever met Babb instantly liked her. She was a pleasure to be around and never failed to make you laugh. We will all miss her terribly. Please send some strength and good energy to the Babb family.

Thanks!

Theresa Wang, a doctor with West Hawaii Community Health Center, suffered numerous broken bones, including to her legs, hips, arms and neck, following a head on collision with another vehicle which had crossed the center line. She has undergone surgery on her legs, but her condition is too unstable for further surgeries and she remains sedated. She is recovering from an aneurysm she suffered in late 2008.

Ok, I accept. This is my first post!

Cancer needs to leave my family and friends alone! My favorite cousin Shanni and my sister Steph were both diagnosed with Breast Cancer in January. Both are doing well but could use some help.

My close friend Dave just finished surgery for prostate cancer. I'm really worried about him, he and have grown apart as he's been doing less of what I call 'fun' and more drinking and partying and gaining weight. He was diagnosed in Feb and had a successful operation but I'm worried about his mental state. I can sort of tell he's trying to keep a stiff upper lip but I'd like to see him get back to fitness.

Thanks, Ryan!

Kaylee is 3 and is fighting Neuroblastoma. Her family calls her their warrior princess, and I think she would love it if people destroyed some WODs with her name on their hands. Even more if it were written in pink:p

I'm going to start tomorrow 12/16, but anyone who wants to send her some strength, anytime, will be greatly appreciated. I put her facebook up, because she loves pictures and followers.
