in Art Devany's latest blog, he references Dr. Wong who claims that doing full ROM bench presses and pull ups with palms facing away from you are damaging to rotator cuff. He supports chin ups with palms facing to you as better for shoulder, any comments? http://www.arthurdevany.com/archives..._fitness/index.

Just read the Wong article Rich. He was actually talking about wide grip pull DOWNs.

I would agree that an excessively wide grip on an exercise is bad. I also think BB style wide grip benches are shoulder wrecker. For people who are naturally poor benchers (long arms, small rib cage) the full ROM bench may be too much, especially initially.

In CF the bench is done infrequently and in a powerlifting style. Done this way and combined with all the anterior chain work we do here I don't thing it's big concern.

I dislocated both shoulder and tore rotator cuffs years ago. Not weight training related. I still bench and have no adverse effect from it. However about once a weak I add some training for my rotators and rear delts specifically, L flyes, cuban press and reverse flies.

I don't do pulldowns anymore but if I did would only do them with a medium grip. I do majority of my pullup with supinated pamps but occasionally mix in some pronated especially when I use the ledge in my cellar.

The remainder of the article said nothing new and slowly degenerates into into a t-Mag at it worst, dodgy supplement sales piece.

Well I know of one benefit to doing pullups supinated, I haven't done curls in two months and still have big (and strong) biceps.

Rich,
Do you happen to spend time on the camaroz28.com Tech board?

Dennis Yiatras 08-14-2006 09:32 AM

I spend sometime on Camaroz28.com Lonnie

Cool.
I like the forced induction/turbo section as you might have guessed.
