I did weighted overhead squats today after the WOD for the first time. And I totally uderstand what Lincoln said earlier about using weight so that you can find your balance. I just used the bar, but I can see the value of this exercise.
They felt good so I thought I would give snatches a try too, also a first. I did about 10 with just the bar, then about 15 with 65 pounds. They were just power snatches, I can't get down into a full squat yet. It was nice to finally do snatches and get the intimidation factor out of the way. Now that I know that I can do them I am excited to start practicing them more.

Alex,
Good work on the snatches. I am still too intimidated by them to try them without some coaching. Someday. I really like overhead squats though!

There is a progression to learning how to snatch. Overhead squats are one of the first steps. Snatch balances and drop snatches are the next step. Shrug/Pulls to sternum height with a light bar is the next step. Get comfortable with those first, then learning squat snatches will seem easy.

Learning the snatch progression really should be another post.
