Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
It's an error that the person who validated the score SURELY should have caught before putting it through, and that the athlete should have addressed by now as well. I found her FB profile, as I was researching whether or not there was ANY chance she did the lift (like, she was an actual competitive weightlifter or something). I'm tempted to message her.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Well I tried video taping my C&J of 520 but my camera failed last night in my dream... maybe next year I'll get it to work...
Still amazes me how people validate such awful scores... It is just "golden" |

Completely agree with first couple of minutes. Folks that tried to sandbag 15.1 and then crush 15.1A were lame indeed and completely against CF spirit. Thank god HQ took care of that, but still...shame on those people for trying to play around the rules no matter how impressive their C&Js are. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Yes people who validate the scores that are blatantly wrong.. maybe should have to re do the judge test. Our division has a person c and j 335# and listed at #225 on his bio.. makes you wonder how many other screw ups are in the mix. Some people come out of nowhere to either win a workout or do near the tops.. you look at last years comp and they did some serious hard dam work, programming must of been king.. send me the coaches name would like to hire.
End of rant.. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
was doing C2B yesterday felt good.. so Castro put those in the mix.. Would love to see a long grinder-
10 C2B 20 Box jumps 40 Double unders- 15 min worth of it.. |
I would like to see OHS, not heavy but just the movement from the start. This will put a stop to those athletes that go Rx because they can't even do the movement so they go scaled.
CFHQ needs to divide the field so we end up in the right group.. That's my view on the subject.
CFHQ should issue minimum guidelines for the RXed division. Max workout times on benchmarks as RXed, skills required (eg muscleups, pistols), minimum 1rm's on lifts. |

Why? If they can't do the movement and you can, good for you, you'll place higher. I don't understand why anyone should be discouraged from going Rx regardless of the movements. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I'd rather be last in rx than first in scaled. Just my opinion.

Possibly they set a minimum limit for example you must be able to compete at least 1 round for a valid score. When you see people doing 15 T2B and nothing else and then hitting a massive C&J then the system is messed up. If you can do a C&J you must be able to do a deadlift or ? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I'd rather be last in rx than first in scaled. Just my opinion.
Agreed, which is why I spent 9 minutes trying my hardest to get TTB and had a *legitimate* score of 1. With a C&J of 135# after. But I was thrilled because getting up into the Rx division for the first part of the workout meant that my C&J counted for that much more. Accusations of sandbagging would be pretty ridiculous, I worked my butt off for that 1 rep. The only time I'm not going to go Rx is if I would otherwise score a zero (ie, can't even get one rep of the very first movement). Which is why I think we *are* going to see the more difficult movements placed first in these workouts, to separate people out to scaled right away. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I will cry if pistols come out. I have a knee that's been ravaged by a bone condition (OCD: osteochondritis dessecans) and some surgically-removed cartilage. CF has made me realize I am still capable of a lot of movements despite that, but the handful of times I've even attempted a pistol have not been fun. *sigh* Who knows....maybe an Open WOD would prompt me to somehow find the capacity to get one...

Hope for
10 Pistols 15 HSPU 30 Double unders 15 min amrap... Now what I think that they might use.. Thrusters/C2B just because they use them dam near every year. It doesn't look like Double unders because the flooring. Bar facing burpees.. are always a love for HQ.. I have never even been close to what they pick so guess I will stop. Final- Chipper- 60 burpees bar facing 50 box jumps 40 thrusters 30 C2B 20 HSPU 10 Muscle ups AMRAP 17 min |

you know you get a little excited for the open then they do the same stuff.. Sadly again knowable and non changing with 15.2 being 15.2. Atleast castro did not have a seriously smug I got a secret look and expression on his face.. just more of the same 365 days later. Well glad that I am lighter this year..
Just gotta get to the next round.. |

Here I was thinking that 14.5 would be the repeat. I do suspect that a "For time" wod will show up somewhere this year.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Scaling C2B down to chin-over-bar is not really that much easier. The people that needed to scale TTB down to knee raises probably can't do pull ups, either. Disappointed it's not jumping pull ups. There's still going to be thousands of women stuck at scores of 10 Rx or 6 Scaled.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Those thousands of people will have a year to work on them before next year's open.
If the C2Bs were first they'd have to take zeroes... |

Very true Beth... considering T2B to knees above parallel is quite a difference. They didn't really think about that in the scaled division! had they gone to jumping C2B or pull ups but kept the same starting point 10 reps for each it would have been fair and a little more of a challenge. My wife is not in the Open but we fixed a scaled version of the scaled WOD so that she could do it. We used a light resistance band and she did strict pull ups.. she thought that was great. |

Im sure CF HQ is aware of that and that they did it on purpose for whatever reason there is.

Watching the announcement from Dave Castro he was clear.. this will separate those that should be at the top of the leaderboard and those who should not and where they should be. Quite fair I would say now after hearing that. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Last year during this WOD Brent Fikowski had his score dropped 50 reps, then 50 reps re-instated - what is the general consensus on snatch balancing during this WOD? http://games.crossfit.com/judge/14.292268

I think snatch balance is not allowed. OHS starts and finishes in full lockout overhead with hips and knees extended. The rules specifically allow for a snatch to count, but don't specifically allow snatch balance. I think cfhq should have specified the start and finish position of the OHS. I think sn balance is covered under the "uncommon movements" clause. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Is there something wrong with the leaderboard?
If someone has scaled for 15.1 & 15.2 they should be below someone that has scaled 15.1 and Rx 15.2 right? Checked my own score and that did'nt seem to be the case. I noticed a few other scores where they have Rx 15.1 and scaled 15.2 but they place higher than someone that has Rx both 15.1 and 15.2 Seems CFHQ have a little programming issue. Or have I totally lost my mind? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
They allowed snatch balance to count for the max OHS singles at the GAMES last summer. So it would be strange for it to not count when the weight is so much lower.

But here's the thing, it's not an uncommon movement, and you could clean and jerk into the OHS position without any question, so it's just a difference of front rack/back rack. Here's word for word from the games page "The hip crease must be below the top of the knee at the bottom. A full squat snatch is permitted, but not required, to start the movement if standard depth is achieved." "The barbell must come to full lockout overhead with the hips, knees and arms fully extended, and the bar directly over the middle of the body. You may not use a rack." And watching the video I posted from 2014 - he used a snatch balance (was a top in the world score as well) and it was at first invalidated by HQ, but then the full score was re-instated. |

But, overall, your points are still the sum of your ranks. For example, say five people are doing the Open, A-E. A-D are doing it Rx, but E did one workout scaled. Workout 1: A (1), B (2), E (3), D (4), C (5) Workout 2: E (1), C (2), B (3), A (4), D (5) Workout 3: D (1), B (2), A (3), C (4), E (5s) Total scores are: A (8), B (7), C (11), D (10), E (9), which ranks: B, A, E, D, C E is ahead of D and C, even though E did one of the workouts scaled, in which they came in last, by definition, because their performance on the ones they did Rx was good enough to make up for it. |

I went scaled for the 15.1 and Rx 15.2 and now I can see myself in the Rx group or does this depend on your last choice? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
The RX leaderboard shows everyone. You just have to search for yourself at the bottom if you did scaled. Near as I can tell, the scaled leaderboard filters out people who did all WODs RXd.
