Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
The teams have ended day 3! Ute is impressive, there's going to be a battle for first. Too bad that Miranda is hurt, no way Norcal can win now. Rich has done well carrying he team to 4th. It'll be fun go watch tomorrow. My own hometown team is in 5th! Go Grandview!

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I missed it, what happened to Miranda?
And the disparity between Mayhem's guys and girls is insane. If they get some great girls to move to their gym or something they'll be unstoppable. In the two WODs today where they broke the men and women out separately the men got two first place finishes and the women got 37th and 18th. |

It was while she was doing thr 1RM clean and jerk event. Nothing gruesome but she's out. Rich and Co. will definitely have stronger girls next year! |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
What a joke. ESPN is airing some WNBA crap instead of the Games so they moved us to ESPNews, which I don't get. Watching online anyway but why do they have a deal with ESPN if they get bumped every single year?

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I really feel like from a production point of view, the CF Games are missing alot of visual CGI stuff that would make it ALOT easier to follow and keep it way more exciting.
The best sports franchises cater to non players in their production and presentation. There's some real basic additions that could be added that I think would really open up its viewership. Like I just watched the heat 2 of the sprints, 1st run. - My guys in lane 1, race begins. Can;t tell where lane 1 is, who am I watching - They begin, I'm watching both ends, trying to guess which end is my guy - The camera angles continually mean I can't see how ANYONE is doing S |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Wow, the first heat of girls are really struggling with the pig 2.0. 395 pounds too heavy, Castro?

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Top ladies seem to be figuring the pig out. Brutal.

The biggest thing is that the team from my gym competed against them at regionals, and all of our women are stronger than their women - we have stronger women, they have stronger men. Our team missed the Games by 6 points - we had an athlete get sick during the first event and consequently finished last. It would have been so cool to see how we stacked up to them at the Games. That said, I am really rooting for the to do well, especially now that Oldroyd is hurt. That team oozing graciousness and classiness. We stayed at the same hotel and I talked to several of them every day. I also love that Lauren Neal is a masters athlete training with those guys. She is awesome, and is juggling a full time job and kids but still working her butt off on that team. |

Saturday final:
TRIANGLE COUPLET 15-10-6 reps for time of: Thrusters (165 / 115 lb.) Bar muscle-ups Time cap: 10 minutes What does that have to do with "triangle"? And we've only seen rings once all week (masters / teens final) |

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I didn't take the judges course this year. Are the legs/feet allowed to go above the bar or rings for the muscle up? I remember at one time they were not allowed.

The commentators mentioned in the teen / masters events that the feet weren't allowed to go above the bar. |

Looking at the points it's gonna be an exciting final day
MEN 1st and 2nd Battle = Frazer / Smith 3rd = Sager I don't see Sager catching Frazer / Smith for 2nd And I don't see Panchik catching Sager for 3rd WOMAN 1/2/3 Battle = Sigmondsdottir / Davidsdottir / Webb But I don't see Toomey catching 3rd place :pepper: |

What's the schedule like for the rest of the day (teams and individuals) as far as event times? And will it all be available through the Watch ESPN app, even if it's airing live on ESPN?

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Anyone else notice something was added wrong this morning? Ben smith was supposedly 4 points ahead before midline madness, then he finished 6th and fraser in 2nd and smith is now 8 points ahead of Fraser. They were all saying how Fraser was in first now but nope; I added the points up myself and it works out now. Must have been added wrong this morning on the leaderboard cause that doesn't make sense how he could place several spots lower and gain a lead.

Anyone know why Annie withdrew?
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Someone on reddit.com mentioned that the YouTube stream comments mentioned that they had not assessed the penalties associated with knocking down a hurdle on the sprint events until just now. Seems like a serious oversight at this point in the games.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
The conspiracies are flying all over the youtube feed and on instagram comments both about the individual scoring ("Fraser is on Nike so they are penalizing him" is a popular one) as well as with the final work out for the teams (thinking that the solo format is a huge advantage for Mayhem, which it may be. I don't know).
I'm waiting to see if there is any kind of an announcement or explanation during the update show between events before I bust out my tinfoil hat. |

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
IMO not good programming for the final events (especially the first one). Way too many people getting stuck of the first movement for it to be an exciting final event.
I'm all about introducing unknown movements, but when everyone gets stuck, it's just not exciting. |

Women's heat 3, 2nd place was CAP+51. I managed to tie that score from my couch. ☺

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
What a let down for this last event. Part 1 you have 5 girls staring at the peg board and for part two you are watching a number on your screen count cals.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Really would've liked to see something like the cincos to set up a potential race between Fraser and Smith. This event is very meh.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
The men's final is what it could have been if everyone had some time to familiarize themselves with the pegboard thing. Legitimately exciting (although it helped that there were only a few points between first and second)

Well done to Ben Smith! Great final heat!
I had a feeling Fraser wasn't going to win before the week started but I didn't share it. Happy to see a European on the podium! Gudmundson has done well all week! |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Well, I'm glad I didn't have any money on the games this year. 0/6 predictions came true. (0/9 if you count the teams). Super happy to see Ben take the games though. It's been a long time coming.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Personally, I liked the Pegboard event but that's the gymnast speaking in me.
My guess is the gals had a harder time with the pegboard and HSPU because of cumulative fatigue in the upper body. I don't think it's a bad event just because a majority of the competitors didn't do well on it. That's life. It's hard to say if they thought the gals wouldn't have had such a difficult time with it because of said fatigue. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I watched most of the events (pretty much all of them and all the heats too). Here's my thoughts.
I though the swimming event on day 1 was pretty good however ocean swimming is a big of a game changer for people who have no access. It seems to have had very little outcome on the final placings. The sandbag move: awesome event, equalizes a lot of things and actually is a pretty basic display of work capacity. Take this ****, pick it up and move it over here. Murph - great idea, horrible execution. This should have been done early in the morning and out of the sun. This wrecked pretty much everyone for the rest of the weekend. The snatch speed ladder, again exciting, should have allowed the snatch anyhow to prevent the judging snags Heavy DT - I liked this one only barbell cycling we saw all weekend.......in the individuals Sprint obstacle course - again super cool, surprised only one pulled hamstring, no surprise Bailey won them both, also not terribly taxing on the CNS Soccer chipper - again a really cool event and a great test of the CP battery and upper stamina on the pig and the rope climbs, people should know legless rope climbs are coming. Didn't murder anyone either. The clean and jerk - again a great event and set up pretty well. Wonder how heavy people might have gotten if they went three rounds. The triangle event - again pretty cool but maybe a bit of overkill, an unnecessary beatdown in my opinion. Midline event - the yoke carries were pretty pointless they could have just made this a 1.5 mile time trial and likely the results would have been the same. I am shocked no one has broken an ankle up and down those stairs. Plus those stairs are a huge bottleneck for passing...regardless I liked this one and again I don;t think it murdered people. The two final events - the first one, for the ladies was pretty much a waste of time, I did like it for the men though as they all have a lot of pulling strength and doing something like that equalizes things out. I didn't mind the rowing/bike as a test but it is not spectator friendly. The snatch and Kbs were heavy enough to cause some issues but not too heavy. Overall a pretty decent set of tests for the week. Some long stuff, some short stuff, and some strength and gymnastics testing. Thos last test were fairly aerobic as I think only Fraser really killed himself on the rower and bike. As far as the teams go........well Castro succeeded in dreaming up a scenario in which Rich won, would have been way more interesting had Norcal not got hurt. Making 300 points up in solo events in a team competition is a joke. I also question whether Rich and James Hobart spent 50% of their time training at Crossfit Mayhem, my guess no offing way, should that not disqualify them or do those rules only apply in certain circumstances ? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I was surprised and excited to see the pegboard introduced. I'm in the process of building a pegboard for my home gym. The pegboard hasn't been used in CrossFit until now, but I remember having fun on it in middle school PE class, so I wanted to build one for myself. What other unknown equipment can CrossFit use next?
