Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
100819 THURSDAY
Physical Therapy Day. Warm-up on the stationary cycle for 10:00. Piriformis stretch: 30 seconds X 2 (each side) Lateral 6# med ball toss - - face forward, balance on one slightly bent leg, the other trailing; catch ball in the transverse plain to opposite side of trailing leg, facing forward and return it to PT. 10 reps X 1 each side. These are HARD! Still can't balance on foam pad, have to stand on solid floor. Lateral (side) stretches (in cage); 30 seconds each side X 2. Reach over top of head (staying in frontal plane) to stretch hip/IT band. Transverse stretch (in cage) 30 seconds X each side X 2. Reach around to opposite side, torso facing forward. Feel stretch in IT, hip flexors, and glutes. Finish up with functional strength reassessment: Lie prone on table, knee of leg being tested bent at 90 degrees and held up off table, sole of foot pointed and pressing slightly upwards to ceiling. As PT presses down on foot, do not allow foot/leg to move downward toward table. Results: Left leg (glutes) much weaker than right and found to be at grade 4+. More strengthening work is in my future, I am afraid! No time for a workout today.......but even though it caused less soreness than any time previously, I consider the PT to have been a good substitute. |
Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Steve, did I read correctly that you are up to 25 double-unders? That's awesome. This uncoordinated soul is still at 1 in a row. Does 1 qualify as a row??? Good workouts man!
Tony |
Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Yeah, I missed that double under achievement. Congratulations! You are inspiring me to take another crack at those darn things.

For me, those were actually more difficult than trying to get DUs.....never could get past more than one single-double. :pepper: 100825 WEDNESDAY Been away from the boards for several days, but have been doing a functional workout just about every day. I have been building the "shelves from Hades" - - full-height (almost 11 feet) and nearly the length of one of our garage walls (18')...... I've gotten one heck of a workout simply moving stuff around, let alone packing home all the wood to build this monstrosity. 12 half sheets of particle board (carried two at a time) get heavy quickly. Thank you, CrossFit! |

More physical therapy today. Coming along well- less pain in the SI joints and definite glute/hamstring improvement too. Glad I'm almost done building the shelves - what a workout! |

I think I would be better off to add a whole new garage than go through the shelf building and organizing. I have a system - honest. LOL I hate to throw anything away - I might need it someday. Hey Laurie, Thanks! It's going to be a "mother bear" for me when I get back at WODding with some focus.....painful AND it's going to be U G L Y! Have a blast at the Oly Cert this weekend. Can't decide which one I want to go to next - - Lifting or Rowing.....or the Movement and Mobility. Take care! Steve |

Tony
You are so correct on both counts, Tony. We've often thought about having a garage sale........only problem is where we are going to get another one.....:D |
Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
100828 SATURDAY - - (Another) REST DAY
Completed the big garage shelf project - - still a bit sore from using the shelves as scaffolding or a jungle-gym at times. Now......to load them (more functional workouts and heavy lifting). Planning to get back into the CF gym this next week and start ramping it up again. I also plan to start checking back in on everyone's logs! |

How you been lately? Haven't seen ya on the boards lately. Hope all is well.

Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Hi Laurie,
Thanks for the info. Glad you had a good time. I have heard great things about Greg Everett's classes there at Catalyst - - thinking of going over myself when I get a chance if I can't make a Cert..... |

Thanks, Marianne. Going through a bit of a rough spell lately - - trying to come down with something, over tired, and (finally!!!) got transferred to a SBUX closer to home, so I'm not driving a three hour round trip..... Hope to get back into things soon and post also......Take care! |

Steve,
Good to hear from you. The weather is finally cooling a bit here and feels more like workout weather. I'll pray for you to be re-energized. PS sent you a PM Tony |

Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Hey Steve. Well, thank goodness you got a job closer to home! 3 hour round trip commute is ridiculous! Glad you keep returning to your workouts. That's all that counts, is that you don't stop and then never resume.
|
Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Nancy,
Thank you! Yup, much nicer to be close to home when I'm done and tired..... Thanks for the encouragement and validation about working out. With all that's been going on, it would be easy to quit. Glad I can't..... |

Steve, I hate those unplanned rest days. Feels like you're cheating or something, but they happen. I have found that work really interferes w/my personal life too. Thinking of starting a petition for a 3 day, 3 hour a day work week. With lunch included of course. Thank you God for trying times; I know I grow stronger with you each valley I walk through. Tony |
Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
100918. SATURDAY
More unplanned rest days - a full work schedule plus I have been fighting something which seems a lot like mononucleosis. Got some tests done this last week. Hopefully good news and a remedy will come from it |

Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Marianne and Tony,
Thank you for the well-wishes. I hope to find out something concrete this week - - I'm really tired of being tired. My body wants to WOD!! Take care. Catch up with everyone soon! |

Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Here in Missouri we call those symptoms allergy/sinus problems/infection. They get you down and you don't want to do anything except lay around and nap. I've lost many a day in my life because of it. Frankly, they've been messing with me all week. I'm not diagnosing your problem, although I have watched many House episodes, but merely relating I know a "like" feeling and it is depressing. I'll say a prayer for your health Steve.

Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
100928 TUESDAY....
Finally got a definitive diagnosis. Test for Mono and Epstein-Barr came back negative. I do have a systemic infection which apparently has been going on for several weeks - - back on antibiotics, but according to the Dr. it should do the trick. Perhaps there are more WODs for me in the not-too distant future..:pepper::pepper::pepper: BTW, thank you to everyone for your concerns, prayers, and well-wishes. You guys all ROCK! |
Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Steve, I'm back, how much longer for you? Are you healing alright? I hope and pray you are recuperating well. Tony

Hi Tony, Thanks for asking - - not back quite yet. I am feeling tons better, but still am lacking in some energy. Had a systemic infection which I was not fighting off, so regardless of not having Mono, I still got pretty well zapped! I've gone eight weeks now with no real workouts, so coming back will be UGLY! God is good, however and I expect I will come back as good as new. Looking forward to checking on your log in a few. Blessings! Steve |

101013 - WEDNESDAY
Chad Harris Memorial WOD. Chad was a local El Dorado County Fire Fighter (#22) killed in the line of duty. The memorial fundraiser for Chad was initiated a year ago yesterday. Happy with the time considering how out of shape I am! |
Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Hi Steve! Well, that time sounds pretty darn good.
I hear ya about the out of shape thing. I guess my lower body is in good shape due to the spinning & cycling I've been doing. But from the belly up, well, I've seen better days! Been on somewhat of a bad eating splurge as well, which hasn't helped. |

Re: Steve's "I'm not aging quietly" log
Congrats Steve on the workout! Good time! Hang in there. If I'd taken off that much time I'd probably had to stop and take a nap in the middle of it. Good job!
