Lower Back Issue

Hi guys

Over the last year ive made some good strength gains following CFFB but ive also developed some back pain. One side of my lower back has developed a little bigger and is less flexible to stretch.

Ive tried to work out what it could be that im doing wrong but im stumped. I think it is the left erector spinae but i could be wrong. Trying stretching and mobility as much as possible but is there anything else i could be doing?

My general advice is to have a physical therapist look at it. A little larger and decreased "stretch" makes me think inflammation. Someone better in the know should pipe in a bit.

@ Jess

I agree with Andrew. I am a year removed from a L5/S1 Microdysectomy as I did not listen to my body before I started CrossFit. What I thought was just, 'tightness' in my back ended up being a ruptured disc.

I realize that my case may be extreme but I would highly encourage you to see a specialist, which could include a reputable PTherapist or a spinal specialist. I tried to diagnose myself and the soft tissue/mobility work I did ended up causing more problems to the area.

I too felt a tightness and turned out to also be a ruptured disc. Tho I took it to the extreme.

Once injured I continued to train hard, not knowing the severity of the problem. Ended up 1 month bed ridden and learning to walk again.

Thanks to rehab, I can Crossfit now and love it.

My advice: consult a professional ASAP!

Best of luck.
