As you said before, by definition, a clean is from the floor to front rack in one smooth motion. So if you do a deadlift and then a hang clean, that would not be a clean, and would be illegal in weightlifting.

However, I have no idea what the official crossfit hq rules are so it's a moot point until they specify
In last year's Regionals event that required "squat cleans", they specifically mentioned that a Power Clean followed by a Front Squat was allowed, so why would a Deadlift/Hang Clean variant in the Open be more strict than that? Especially without specifically ruling it out in the standards?

In the end, I doubt many people are going to go that route, so it's probably a moot point...

My understanding from friends who judged regionals was that they specifically mentioned that the power clean + front squat was acceptable precisely because it does NOT meet the standard definition of a squat clean. Typically, HQ (and other major competitions that largely model off HQs stuff) will state when non standard versions of stuff ARE allowed more than stating every weird variation that isn't.

*shrug*

Like a couple of people have said, a deadlift to a hang clean is a pretty dumb way to do 15.4 anyway so I guess it's mostly moot.

Anyone know what happened to Valerie Voboril? She's one of my favorites, and it looks like she didn't submit a score for 15.4?

After Josh Bridges lost the 15.4 announcement workout, I hoped to see him overcome his struggles with the new HSPU standards.

First he posted a video on Instagram of HSPU practice, nailing each rep to standard with the help of a mirror: https://instagram.com/p/0eLd9UHcQY/ (wfs)

Today he posted a new score of 167, a 45 rep improvement over his first score.

Way to go, Josh!

Rich still second, this will be a furious 15.4.

burpees
thrusters
box jumps

movements we've seen in EVERY past Open - but not yet in 2015.

If Rich and Jason both finish in the top 5 worldwide and do the team competition, does that lessen the main event? I mean, if Fraser finishes first in the Open and then wins the Games, then that is fine by me. But when 2 of the top 5 in the world aren't competing individually I think it makes a huge difference. Any thoughts?

If DC was being real sneaky he'd go the opposite way and make a chipper of movements we've already done.

How about

50 Toes to Bar
50 Deadlifts
50 Snatches
50 OHS
50 C2B
50 Wall Ball Shots
50 Double Unders

AMRAP 20 Minutes

I think that DC has to test all of the movements just like before.

Leaves Box jumps, Thrusters, burpees of some kind, Rowing and maybe pistols.

I hope that the thrusters are super heavy, box jumps are high, burpees are long, rowing is medium and many pistols...

But I have learned that I know nothing of what DC says on Thursdays.

Will be fun to do and watch. Just need to close the show.

Cheers

Vic
