What happened to CLB? 33rd on event 2?
Grunt work is not her thing, she is very good at all the technical type movements and has much improved endurance however picking stuff up and moving it around in a wheelbarrow is likely not something she has ever done. Kind of like Noah Olsen.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

So the Australian athletes who all likely have spent a pile of time swimming in the ocean did really well at the beach event........I am shocked.

This would be like the advantage a pile of the Canadians might have if ice skating came up.

I like the idea of swimming, but the open water (especially the ocean) is a game changer, there are a lot of people for whom this is completely impractical.

Swimming in the pool is a lot more equalized.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

^^ it's really not. it's one out of like 13-15 events throughout 4 days. i haven't done the math but the commentators said something like the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the games that had swimming events averaged 9th or 10th in finishing the swims.

not anymore advantageous than wheel barrow, or spike hammering, or baseball toss, etc., over the course of the week.

-----

thoughts/guesses on final events for the masters/teens? i'm thinking combinations of the girls (elizabeth / isabel / fran) like in 2012 finals.

speaking of koski -- i love the personalized 'Leader' shirt!

i wonder if both koski and chad mackay get to have one on friday for Murph (both with 168 points but koski is listed first on the leaderboard).

This was true in the past, but I'm not so sure about this year. I was actually talking about this same subject on Facebook yesterday. It used to be that Wednesday was a day you would see athletes at the top of the leader board whose names you wouldn't hear the rest of the weekend. Yesterday, at the beach, most of the favorites to be in contention for the podium were finishing in or near the top 10, with both of the winners (Koski, Webb) being among them. It really shows the evolution of the sport and the way that athletes prepare.

Not as demoralizing as you think.
At 16 years a body can be already mature or still in development.
Those guys competing are in the 10% of the 16 years boys with an adult body. Genetics, hormone levels, ... play a big part.
"Normal" guys can't have this kind of muscle mass at 16, even with a lot of food and a lot of serious weight training.

I don't try to take away the work they put to be at this level at such a young age, I think you see my point here.

some really angry comments about the missing coverage of the relay event (see the relay event highlights video page).

it was probably just some technical difficulties; and comments like:

"That highlight sucked! Worst coverage of the games this year!"

makes me  and think back to the days when you had to trawl youtube for shaky cam footage filmed with a potato just to get a glimpse of the events.

now, if they start charging for these live streams, then i could understand expecting perfection (or at least your money's worth). As it stands, it's pretty frickn' awesome compared to what "worst coverage" used to be.

I've not heard the announcers mention it like they have in the past, are the athletes making money for individual events? I remember last year was something like $3,000 for first place in an event.

I am also very impressed by those teens but there is a big bias here :
In 2010 Crossfit was geared toward strength and conditioning, with no emphasis on the olympic lifts. At the time the guys had already a big engine and a good level of strength but most of them were not very skilled for olympic lifts.

Remember the 2009 games ? 16 guys were able to clear quite easily the deadlift ladder (with a max weigth at 495 pounds), but only one of them was able to snatch over 225 pounds.

Now Crossfit includes a lot of emphasis on the olympic lifts, most crossfit games athletes could compete at a national level in olympic weightlifting.

Those days the teens practicing crossfit are also practicing a lot olympic weightlifting movements and are probably much more comfortable with squat snatches than most of the 2010 crossfit games athletes, it doesn't mean they are better than the Crossfit games athletes were in 2010.

Can the murph be performed "as they like as long as they do the required number of reps" or they need to follow its structure, first run, 100 pullups, 200 pushup, 300 squats and another run?

Anyone know how many of the competitors (Including masters) are actually affiliate owners?

Being able to put 100% of their time into CF and having an income to support it is not easy for those that have a normal day job!

Just curious :)

I suppose you could look at each competitor's games profile page, and if there is no clear answer follow them on twitter or facebook and find out what their occupation is. After that, it is just some simple math, and you can post the answer for us all.

45+ mens last year top 3 were owners. This year the same.. as far as overall I don't know. But I am sure that most have jobs that give them time to workout out or they put it in their busy schedule. Sometimes I hear their story and its like mine.. Crossfit is the passion and we have people around us to share in that healthy passion.

I think that Injuries are the big element in the Masters. I had a good 6 months in pain this year with a bad back and 5 months last year to a wrist injury.
Everyone in the 45+ has issues training with the kids.

you're still gonna need them (your hands) the rest of the week and it makes no sense risking tears when it is so preventable.

Carnage for sure.

Any reason the bars couldn't be powder coated in white to avoid the excessive heat buildup? The heat can't help a lot...

Wouldn't you think the later heats would see the carnage and either tape like crazy or glove up?

Heat or no heat, the excessive torque when doing bar muscle ups wreaks havoc on your hands. These people aren't n00bs, they should know better and be erring on the side of caution. There's two more days of events left!

The pushups look like the standard depends on the judge, especially compared to what the announcer's just described as the standard of compressing the body armor with your body on the ground. Noah Ohlsen is barely touching the ground and getting credit for all but Koski is getting a ton of no reps for what looks like the same exact move.
