I just want to say that Dave Castro's Instagram hints are VERY oblique.

He posted a photo of The Hunchback of Notre Dame novel and a gargoyle from the Notre Dame cathedral as a hint for 17.1.

For 17.2 the hint was a bunch of koi fish.

I don't get it, even after knowing the workouts.
Several big names dropping out already.

Jacob Heppner
Chandler Smith
Marcus Filly
Brooke Ence
So Chandler Smith smashed up his finger.

I looked the others up on Instagram.

Jacob Heppner - knee bursitis
Marcus Filly - helping wife with a newborn baby
Brooke Ence - herniated C6, C7; just woke up one day in pain

I have had the same injury at Ence. It's brutal, and thinking about surgery on that part of the neck if you don't absolutely need it is scary as heck.

They aren't hints. He just posts random pictures and sits back laughing while everyone tries to read into it.
I'm 215 and 6ft. What kills me are the T2B, they take too long to complete so I loose allot of time. My grip was fine the whole time during 17.2. I reckon I could get 100+ reps easily if I could speed them up. I hit 92 reps today.

17.1 was hard on the lungs.... I'm hoping for some max 1rm or something so we have a chance against all these Duracell bunnies :D
At 6'2"/225, 17.2 was without a doubt much easier...of course, i only got 3 bar muscleups, so there's that.

I've already started seeing memes revolving around how Castro could possibly incorporate 3 dumbbells into 17.3, but i just don't see that happening.

Here's hoping for a max lift, or at least a relatively heavy barbell!

Anyone else predicting DB thrusters and deadlifts for 17.3?

Maybe thrusters and double unders?

If we see the DB again I wouldn't mind single arm jerks.

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Believe the dumbbells are gone for the rest of the open.

Rowing
Jerks
wall balls
then a 3 rep snatch max

You totally forgot about me...

I am also out this year. 17.3 would not have gone well. I am glad as last time there were ascending snatches I screwed up my shoulder. Coupled with C2B would have been murder.

Anyone know what happened to Sam Briggs on 17.3? 157th finish with 178 reps.

Heavy snatching has never been her strong point. I would say that's sort of expected.

Jon Campbell 03-15-2017 07:27 PM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Yep, heavy weight has never been her thing. Best in the world at an engine workout but add in something heavy and she's pretty human.

Jayme Gruber 03-16-2017 06:55 AM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Bound to see a repeat WOD this year, right? I feel like 17.1 was the engine/gut check WOD that has usually been saved for week 5 in years past (Thrusters and rowing or OTB Burpees) and we haven't seen quite a few movements yet.

Rowing
Deadlifts
Double Unders
Wall Balls
RMU
HSPU
Probably others I'm missing.

I'm guessing 17.4 is 16.4

Alex Burden 03-16-2017 08:53 AM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Agree to that based on the athletes in the announcement.

DL, WB, row and hspu.

So what do we expect for 17.5

DU's and what???

Something with a barbell? OHS, hang power clean, power cleans.... muscle ups, ring dips.... front squats from the ground, S2O...

Looking at the athletes this must be something with heavy weight and lungs or maybe even a 17.5 and 17.5a.

Looking at the athletes they select has proven to not be helpful in the past.

I think DUs and Thrusters are very likely. Beyond that I have no clue.

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Just to close off the whole thing with the open...

CF HQ should have looked into the scoreboard and fixed the final problem that is still there!!!

If you did not compelte all 5 weeks then you should not be infront of anyone that completed all 5 weeks... many of them and their results are ahead of those that completed all 5 weeks which is not fair on those that actually did complete all 5 weeks. It all has to do with the number of points they received for being last that specific week.

This means that thousands of people would actually move XXX number of places up the leaderboard.

Come on CFHQ, fix this because this is not fair on allot of people. If you don't then i can't see why we should bother next year if the leader board is only good and correct for the elite but now for those 99% normal humans trying their best.

No result logged for 1 week yet still ahead of others...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Alex,
I agree with you. I think a zero rep score should bump you behind the last person who completed all workouts.

For the individual athletes in 75,000th place it may make a difference. For the event organizers (CrossFit HQ), it probably doesn't matter much. It would matter more if it meant the difference between qualifying for Regionals or not.

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

TREVOR BACHMEYER BANNED AND DISQUALIFIED

What people will do.... i am just amazed

April 11, 2017

Trevor Bachmeyer, 44, has been disqualified from the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games competition. Bachmeyer was previously ranked first worldwide in the Masters Men 40-44 Division, and second in the individual division in the NorCal Region.

Each year, prior to awarding invitations to Regionals, CrossFit confirms the capacity of potential Regional athletes through video review. Bachmeyer submitted a video of Open Workout 17.3 upon request. His video submission was flagged by one of CrossFit's judges, which prompted a request for additional videos. After review of Bachmeyer's 17.5 video, a judge determined that only a single round was performed and then repeated on a loop to give the appearance of 10 rounds. Subsequent analysis by CrossFit Inc.'s video department also supported this determination.

Bachmeyer's Open scores will be invalidated immediately. In addition, he will be banned from competing in any CrossFit-sanctioned event for a period of four years from today, pending an appeal, if any.

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

If you dig a little deeper into this guy, it just gets worse and worse. In 40-44 division, he goes from 3,048th to SECOND in just two years, and then (at first pass) winning this year?? PED questions, big time (esp. if you look at him)

He qualifies as an individual in 2016, doesn't go, but does the Masters qualifiers. Out of the nine workouts he does in 2016, his finishes were 6-2-1-39-10-19-2-14, and......

wait for it......142nd!

Guess which of those nine scores he had to send in a video for?

So, his reputation as an honest competitor is one thing, but then if you dig into his professional reputation, it gets WAY sketchy. His (varied and multi-named) business reviews on Yelp paint a very dicey picture. Bait and switch schemes, overpriced treatment....man, it's just not good at all.

Victor J McQuaide 04-13-2017 05:12 PM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Crazy for sure. I was thinking this year this dude is killing the Masters. .. heck killing Nor Cal pro's also. Wes P Games guy was questioning his path for the past 7 years if this guy killed him.

Sure PED's and cheating. They might go hand in hand.

Would like to see his videos.

Guy is going to hit the 45-49 class in 4 years. HEHE.. sure he is out of x fit.

Dam masters..

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Yah, I follow his smashwerx stuff on Youtube and IG. He is wicked lean. When I heard he got banned I thought it was PEDs for sure.

I have been CF since mid-2009 and his scores were crushing mine........I guess not really.

The other piece is that most of his stuff is "borrowed" from what mobilitywod once was prior to Starrett going mostly dark.

I believe he is a chiropractor as a living. This is gonna kill him. I do not know the guy at all so who in the hell knows what he was thinking or what the actual truth is. But looping a video ? poor taste.

http://www.floelite.com/video/1166605-trevor-bachmeyer-cheats-175-full-video#.WPFcV0tCf8s

Check it out. Watch for his hips when he picks up the truster bar and I believe it looks a little crazy when he grabs or drops the rope. Some people are saying its just the handles. But what an edit job. Glad that they did not need me to judge it.. would have passed right by my naked eye.

Crazy.. he's done!

Jason A Smith 04-15-2017 07:48 AM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Vic, I saw that as well. There is no sound on the video so not sure about the rope. But once I read the stuff below I noticed it plain as day the edit when he bends down to pick the bar up. I am sure the CF Games people noticed it immediately.

Jon Campbell 04-15-2017 05:42 PM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

He does the same double dip picking up the rope too, or handles.

Christopher Morris 04-16-2017 12:21 PM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

I wondered if it would be possible to edit a video to cheat rounds like that. He doesn't follow the rules that a running clock and a second person need to be in the frame, both things that make cheating a video more difficult.

Jayme Gruber 04-17-2017 08:24 AM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Not to mention all his IG videos are lit great and have perfect quality. Then he uploads this video from a mile away, dark and super grainy. So obvious.

Tighe Crovetti 04-17-2017 01:16 PM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Let's not forget: it was the 17.3 video (which was a simple workout) that had something so suspicious in it, that they requested the 17.5 video. I want to see the 17.3 video.

And to boot, knowing he now has two videos with issues, it calls into questions every single one of his scores. As I posted above, his 142nd finish (that's nearly bottom 25%!) could lead someone to think, this guy is a bottom 25% athlete, not a top 5% guy, and then you're talking about a LOT of people he bumped out of Regionals/qualifiers.

Christopher Morris 04-17-2017 03:21 PM

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Clearly he is a strong dude with a fit build. He's not a lazy, fat couch sitter. It's a shame he didn't use his abilities within the rules of competition.
