Because the fact that english is not my first language you feel the need to bash me...awesome, BTW you missed a word or two in your sentence.
I missed the words "my" which I omitted in reference to MY english, as in the words I was transposing into the comment window. And I missed the word "are" before Camille LeBlanc. Well, besides the words that get asterisked out because I curse like a baseball player. Let me be clear. I am not ridiculing your command of the english language. You write a helluva lot better than that gobbly-muck that Camille is always posting on social media that hurts my brain to try and read. I can understand that she will never get rid of the accent and probably have decent spoken grammar because she hails from that frozen land with reindeer and hockey. What you are not getting is the words I am imparting in these posts. You insist that Sam Briggs doesn't have that strong of legs compared to someone like Kara Webb (or Becca Day though that's awhole nother discussion). Yes, she isn't squatting 150 or 180kg. Both Sam and Annie have long legs (especially Annie if you watch her snatch or clean) which don't make for as great of squatters (Kara is 4 inches or 10cm shorter which is the same height as Camille but weighs 12kg more). OMG, she doesn't squat like Taylor Stalling, PLing so and so. She outlifts Thorrisdottir in her Oly numbers by a 18kg total(though neither are exemplary Oly/Weightlifters) and deadlift and weighs 5-6kg less while squatting the same and deadlifting 10 more kg. Yes, Camille and Lauren squat more and SnCJ more (though they do not deadlift more than Sam and Annie by A LOT). Camille is a good 5" shorter than Annie and 3"shorter from Lauren besides 4" from Sam. If anything Camille has shorter legs and a long torso compared to Fisher with her opposite proportions in her legs and torso. I give up. |
I like the first one but reverse the reps on HSPU and pistols. 20 pistols easy, 20 HSPU will be a lot of people staring at the wall for a while. Especially if they are strict, which I could see.
Reckon that's a personal thing, for me 20 hspu 25 seconds, 20 pistols 2 minutes, unless I go at them not caring about my knees which is only something I will do if necessary to get to the games. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
No chance of pistols and HSPU this week... ( I think)
Foucher vs. Brooks are the wrong people for that... Bridges and Panchik.. yes, because CFHQ want a battle and they will get that with them. Foucher vs. Brooks could be: Push ups, burpees, box jumps, wall balls and double unders.... Why not put everything we hate in the same workout :) and rip our lungs to pieces.... It sure is Scott. I actually can crank out pistols pretty well. I also have crap knees but this does not really bother them. The HSPUs (if strict) would be a staring contest with the wall for most as after about 50-60 they will be done. |

I remember being at regionals 2009, before kipping hspu had been invented, 12 guys kneeling looking at the wall, happy days. And that was just 15-12-9 Clean & Jerk and HSPU. In case anyone is wondering programming was left to the regional organisers in 2009 not HQ and every regional had different workouts. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Going to be an ascending ladder, and I think the rope/guns picture is going to imply wall ball shots and doubles. Maybe 10-10, 20-20, 30-30, etc... for 9-11 minutes.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
There was a pool table on Castro's instagram this morning as well. Likely hinting at something. Talked about getting engines ready. I guess it is time to breath ? Hopefully.
And Scott I remember that too, seems like a long time ago....how things have changed. The first Friday night in the HDC at the Games 2010 was like a ghost town, and now sold out. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I saw Castro's instagram where he says "Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines" and then shoots some pool.
For those following The Outlaw Way, this was the conditioning piece of the workout on Tuesday: At a conversational pace or 150BPM (work hard, but maintain an exertion level that would allow you to carry on a conversation without breathing hard)- 30:00 AMRAP of: 40 6″ Target Burpees 40 Wall Balls 20/14# Maybe 15.3 will be something like that. Hopefully a lot less than 30 minutes, though. |

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
well castro is certainly spending money to give hints...
Start you engines.. implies that its going to be a motor thing. 8 ball- well maybe wall balls.. that what it sounds like to me.. Last hint had pistols in it 2 of them.. meaning left and right? And a double under rope.. not a RX rope so its not that important.. ha ha.. So wall balls, pistols and double unders? I am fine with that..I like it when they break up the double unders into sections not just one lump.. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
15.3
AMRAP 14 minutes: 7 muscle ups 50 wall ball (20lbs, 10ft for men/ 14lbs, 9 ft for women) 100 double unders GO! |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Honestly the best part of the announcement show is Brooke's standards demonstration 😍.
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I would say that more people can't do muscleups than can't do HSPU.
80% will end up doing this one scaled, and there will be a lot of low scores on this wod. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I like it. I can crank out a set of 7 UB MUs to start and have gotten good enough at WB that I can breath through those and I am pretty good at DUs and will use that time to actively rest before the next set of MUS.
Good times. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
15.3
I think this is perfect not giving people the chance to do 1 rep just to be a part of the Rx. Either you can do a MU or you can't - So you either choose no score or go scaled which is fair. I went scaled... did it this morning 1hr after getting up.. hit 624 reps which I was pleased with. I think I can make 700 on Monday. All I can is good luck because this is hard on the lungs and thighs. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Now that we know what the workout is - what the hell did the Instagram video with Rory and Dave and the pool table mean?
"Start your engines" - engine based workout, can you keep moving - got it pool table/9 ball/2 going in the hole twice - all the other "conspiracy" stuff - can anyone translate it? |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I think they need to rework things some- maybe add a third division in between RX and this scaled. The scaled workout is such a joke drop down from RX. I understand that you can make any workout tough if you push yourself, but there's nothing really interesting about wall balls and some single unders- he completely cut out a movement. Should be a middle ground with something like 7 pull ups and 7 dips. Call it the difference between intermediate scaled and beginner scaled It feels like Castro sees the world in binary- you have firebreathers and fatasses.
Full disclosure, most of my ire is on the part of my wife who thinks the scaled is incredibly lame this time, but has never hit a muscle up. For me, it'll be 14 minutes of trying to remember how I've done a muscle up before. If I score a 3 I'll be stoked. As much as I hate it, I do kind of like that he's making us declare RX versus scaled right out of the gate. |

Dave Castor LOVES the fact that anything he says this time of year is disected a thousand different ways to try and get a clue on what he's doing for the workouts. He loves messing with us. As for everyone complaining about the MU's being first and then the scaled being SOOOO EAAASSSY (check Castro's IG, he's getting blown up) I think that you either get your first muscle up OR you go out there and get 1000 reps scaled since it is soooo easy. I would have preferred a sub for the MU's but Dave didn't do it so that's that. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
One last thing, it would have been cool if Castro would have included DU's in the scaled workout by saying "single unders x 100 or DU's x 50, take your pick" but that would have been a nightmare to judge!

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I think my issue is more w/the overall programming so far vs. 15.3 specifically. And yes, as a disclaimer, I am a "RX minus muscle ups" person (who is hoping to nail muscle up #1 sometime before Monday). Oh, and the scale does suck for this workout....it's not easy...it's just completely different stimulus and limiters than the RX.
But here's my real issue so far (could change w/the last two weeks, but we'll see). So far, through 3 workouts, this has basically been a gymnasts dream. The limiter in all three WODs so far has been gymnastics ability 15.1: Toes to bar slowed people down, not snatches and deadlift 15.1a: This is the exception....but you're not scoring highly in week 1 w/o a good score on 15.1. 15.2: Chest to bar is what killed people, not OHS (yes, some cant' do OHS, but for intermediate to advanced athletes, it wasn't the OHS keeping them from moving on). 15.3: As we saw last night, muscle-ups separated Foucher and Brooks. For everyone else, muscle-ups will be the difference between Rx and scale (I'd guess 90%+ women scale and 80% of men do). So through three workouts, if you're light and can swing from a bar, you're in the lead. It hasn't been about cardiovascular endurance (sure you need that for 15.3 and 15.2, but only it's not the make or break point). Only 15.1a has required strength in any traditional sense (yes, MU require strength, but it is a high skill movement as much as a strength movement), no scores have been limited by a persons speed, agility, etc. I guess to me, this open (so far) has been one of the last balanced Opens I can remember. Now, like I said, there are 2 weeks left...and maybe we're done hanging from things. Thoughts, though? Has this Open been unbalanced/favored gymnasts (or a particular type) at the expense of those who have strength in other areas? I especially feel bad for those moderately skilled (e.g. adequate but not great at gymnastics moves) but with a huge engine. B/c they've basically been screwed so far (and no, I'm not one of those guys:-)). |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
I really don't think this WOD is going to screw people over on the scoreboard like they're all whining about.
Say in 13.3 you were able to complete the wall balls and double unders then spent 3 minutes just staring at the rings. You're in no different of a position this year with the MU first except you actually get to keep adding to your score for the entire time frame. You would've been ranked below every single person that got even 1 MU before, which will be the same effect on this WOD. The Open is in its 5th season now. If you're new to CrossFit, you're likely scaling and if you've been doing it for years and still don't have a muscle-up odds are you're scaling some WODs anyway. Sure, I can see the reason people are complaining about the scaled option being boring, but it had to be designed not just for the fairly good athlete that just hasn't hit a MU yet, it had to be designed for the far greater amount of people that can't do double unders and were crying last year that they were in 14.1 You can't please everyone. This is a great separator WOD and maybe if you're on the cusp of getting your first MU you'll either surprise yourself or it'll motivate you to work that weakness into the ground before the 2016 Open rolls around. |

What about Natalie Newhart's 15.2 score being adjusted after video review and CLB being declared the winner now?
|
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Must admit 15.5 was not that exciting, they could of flipped it and had ring dips.
200 SU's 50 WB 7 ring dips This would have given the same effect as before, if you can,t dip then you get to look at the bar after the WB's This would have been more of a challenge and split the field into 3. Now on the other side of things - how important is it for people to go Rx rather than scaled? in my case I would rather give maximum effort in the scaled than hit 1 rep just to say I went Rx. |

Nothing wrong with that as you say. But is the score the most important? I would not be pleased to tell people I did 1 rep in each workout and lifted 1kg in the lifts just to get on the Rx leaderboard. But saying that if he is pleased and makes a breakthrough by hitting his MU then why not, who's to say how or what anyone should do. |

Seems like a pretty steep penalty for missing 5 reps...but if those 5 reps were what got her to the next portion of the workout it makes sense. Does this mean I only need to get 2 MU's for 15.3? Then I can miss the next 5 get to wall balls and DU's and still have a decent score minute the 15%? |

They have a policy that if you miss 5 or more reps, they automatically do the 15% penalty, so she may have missed more than those 5 reps. And if you miss enough, or aren't even close, then they can just invalidate your score completely. |

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Wonder how much time they think about these workouts and when they plan them. 1 month out or less is my guess. Julie F vs. Miss B.. that is not much of a match up.. Sam Briggs vs. Rich F... the two biggest volume people in the world.. now that would be a match up. Miss B heard about her being in the show in the Month of Jan.. I don't think that they planned MU with inviting her.. Heck she put on a totally good show.. she is a very cool woman.

I agree, they can't plan this out too far in advance. I did feel "bad" for Lauren, I kinda feel like these Open demonstrations are to showcase the athletes (which it did for Foucher) but it showed an obvious weakness in Lauren's game. In the Cool Down aftershow she said how shocked she was to be invited, which is kinda how we all felt. She did her best and it was a good show. I would have preferred to see Camille in that one. Maybe they wanted us to see that an elite athlete can still struggle? Who knows! Josh Bridges and Scott Panchik should put on a good show next week. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
i wonder if they'll ever do one that's relatively unknown to everyone, even Castro; e.g. establish the movements/rounds during the announcement.
Only thing is that it would take a little longer to post up on games site. workout demos could just be canned ahead of time. would be a cool throwback to the hopper from the original games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2JmfwfX84I (wfs) |

I think I would rather do between 1-6 MU and call it good. :kicking0: I've thought the same thing. Give it 14 minutes to try to get 7 MU (Which I haven't really worked in about a year and a half [kipped]) and if not then break a bit and do the scaled. Man, there is no ****ing way I want to do that many reps. I guess that's only 4 rounds but it sounds horrible. I just want to give a good crack at a few rounds of DU as I've worked on those for months. |
Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread
Practice run tonight. Got two rounds pretty comfortably in about 8:30 or so. I want to stay around 4 minutes a round when I do it Sunday, so I know what I have to do to get there. Took a couple of breaks I shouldn't have so won't do that. Will be looking to get back to the wall balls on round 4, gonna have to move.
