So what's the consensus on allowing the feet to clear the ground (basically a small jump due to the momentum) at the transition of a push press? It seems acceptable to me, indeed positive if it means you're getting that much explosiveness into the movement, but I've heard some say that broaches the realm of a jerk.

I say it's only a jerk if you add a second dip to help get under the bar. Opinions?

I wouldn't focus on the definition but more on what you're trying to achieve. If it's to build shoulder strength, then use the minimum force from your legs to get the bar moving (i.e., no jumping). If you're trying to do an assistance exercise for a jerk, why not jump?

Focus on the power in the drive. As long as you don't do a second dip, it's not a jerk. Apply pressure to the bar right at the full hip extension and you won't leave the ground as much and you'll get the bar up easier too.
