Thanks Ernie. This is my first real session with snaching. i have worked on it here and there but with little weight. Form was ok. I am just not used to it.

Re: Nik

3"00 break.

More MU work. OHS's at 85lbs for snach work. Cory came back and we went over clean progressions for his form.

Nice Snatchin Nik, do you have any idea how your form is, I feel like Im just trying to throw weight up and catch it.
Nice Snatchin Nik, do you have any idea how your form is, I feel like Im just trying to throw weight up and catch it.
Thanks Scott. My form off the ground is good. second pull is good. I know what I need to do. But after the highpull it is just ''get under the bar'' I'm not sure of proper form on top other then shoulders locked.

I need to do some snach balance to get the catch and landing down. Pulling the weight over head is fine. I lack confidence in the catch and landing. Snach balance: (w/f/s) http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/cfj-nov-05/snatch-balance.wmv

Oh supriseingly I am REALLY sore from the snaching. Back shoulders some legs.

Scott Jenkins 09-30-2009 06:28 AM

Re: Nik

Its that second pull where I get lost on cleans and snatches, just dont seem to generate the power I should. Its all good when the weights are light, as soon I get to a certain weight I lose it. You see in my C&J vid how I just pick the bar up and dont use any hip thrust, thats all my cleans once its over 70k, done it with 100k before :(

10:00 break. Streching,Sp 5x5 got 130, 135 didn't go today. MU practice as always.

Re: Nik

"Helen"

Three rounds for time:
Run 400 meters
1 1/2 pood Kettlebell X 21 swings (or 55 pound dumbbell swing)
12 Pull-ups

time, 9:01
last time 11:26
time befor that was 13:44
I had to load a curl bar with 25lbs plates and tie them on with rope.
Pullups were not C2B, most were, but not all.

Scott, I ran all the way to the ''KB'', no walking it in. I did take a few breaths bent over the weight, but Brady was right there yelling at me to pick it up and stop thinking about it. He really pushed me through it.

I broke the second set of pullups because my right hand was slick from sweat. I havbe to ''stack'' my hands one on top of the other on the DB handle. Runs felt really slow on the 2nd and 3rd, but I guess they weren't.

Good workout over all, really happy with it.

Re: Nik

Great freaking job Nik, that's a massive improvement!:highfive: I really try to make sure that I grab the db as soon as I finish the run and not waste time. Then it all comes down to how fast u can do the swings. All my pullups weren't c2b either. I was just going for speed and my Kip usually takes me c2b anyways but nit towards the end of the wod. Congrats man!

Thanks, it was good. But I had a caugh for a couple of hours. I can't believe how wiped out I am for 9 min.s of work!

Thanks. Scott and I have been talking about breaks and Monty. I usually walk in the runs to my next exercize, like the last 10 feet or so. Not today.

Fantastic time on Helen Nik, very nearly a sub 9 which is great. My tree killed my time today!! Well done for running all the way in also, so tempting to just walk in the last few yards.

Re: Nik

Seen todays wod, its going to take me an hour to gather everything I need into an area of the gym, then I will have to protect everything from being picked up and taken. Its going to be almost like trying to keep 15 ferrets in a sack at the same time.

The sub for rope climbs is 15 towel pull ups for each climb also, thats going to be a long horrible finish.

I hear you Scott, it is going to suck to try and fight off all the folks at the gym to keep the stuff together.

Good luck today gents!

HAHAHA, yea you guys will have some work keeping it all together at the gym. I just used my break setting everything up for lunch. I was suprised the the 2 pood didn't feel to bad picking it up. That and the wall ball at the end are my goats, but the KB I hope will be ok.

Thanks and Gods speed.

Oh and towl pullups will suck, I don't pull 15 times to get up the rope, I don't know how many times I pull, but it is nowhere near 15 reps.

Nik Nichols 10-01-2009 11:37 AM

Re: Nik

For time:
25 Walking lunge steps
20 Pull-ups
50 Box jumps, 20 inch box
20 Double-unders
25 Ring dips
20 Knees to elbows
30 Kettlebell swings, 2 pood
30 Sit-ups
20 Hang squat cleans, 35 pound dumbells
25 Back extensions
30 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball
3 Rope climb ascents

Time: I don't know. Brady and I took off at the same time on the same stop watch. It was stopped when he stopped.

I was in the 20min area I'm guessing.
This for me is lesson in why I do crossfit. For fitness. Not numbers. Brady Asked me which watch I was useing on the first of the wall ball set. I hate wall ball, I almost walked away at that point, I almost quite. But I finished it up and glad for it. It will not be the last time this will happen. So iit was a good lesson.

Way to push through it Nik! I was thinking the same thing at the gym today. Very tough workout, kicked my butt. But I honestly enjoyed the test on my body. I was glad to have tried something new and worked my way through it.

CrossFit rocks man! I am so thankful to God to have found this site and use it on a regular basis, don't you? So much healthier and stronger today then I was two years ago when I started!

Scott Jenkins 10-01-2009 12:26 PM

Re: Nik

Fantastic work Nik, loads of highs and lows in that one for all of us, for you it was Wall Ball, for me the hang squat cleans was hell, tried a few out and could not do them at first. Sounds like your time was very close to mine, the works what matters still!! :highfive:

Way to hang in there and work through it nik! For u was the wall balls for me it was the swings and the squat cleans. They really knocked wind out today. We all have rough days but as long as we fight through it and give it hell then we'll get better either way! Good rest day tomorrow. U hitting up alexs challenge?

Still not likin' wall ball shots? I thought you loved em:rofl: Especially after our record breaking times on the last Karen wod.

PSh more then ever. We retaped our ball so it doesnt leak kitty litter any more. But we taped it with duct tape. If you didn't know duct tape gets slick when you sweat on it...real slick.
Hell, I'm just happy it's only one round. :o
That was the saving grace. I kept telling myself that on each exercize.

Me too, after all the drama of the timer wore down, I really liked it, it was really tough, but one set of ''small'' reps was cool.

Nik Nichols 10-03-2009 07:51 AM

Re: Nik

For time:
Run 800 meters
15 left-legged pistols
15 right-legged pistols
25 sit-ups
12 left-legged pistols
12 right-legged pistols
25 sit-ups
9 right-legged pistols
9 left legged pistols
25 sit-ups
Run 800 meters

time 24:48

Pistols were to a bench. I worked on depth and I thought that was good for me seeing I have only done pistols once and held on to somthing. After first round I got better at it and could have gone lower. Next time.
The weight at 55lbs really didn't make it harder. As for form, h*ll I don't know. I was alternating from foot to foot, one leg up one leg down, ''up leg foot never touch the ground till I stood up, the rest I have no idea. Lower back is sore, not pulled, but really taxed from it.

Runs were good, not super fast, but I didn't do the ''high stepping walk'' I ran it all.

Situps unanckored and thumbs to chest Camille style.

Scott Jenkins 10-03-2009 08:03 AM

Re: Nik

Great work there Nik, good idea with the bench there so you dont fall backwards also. The weight probably helped with the balance also. WAs thinking about your high stepping walk when I did the half BW challenge last week and I was running in a 'Floaty Low Stridin Run'!

Nice job on a sweet looking WOD Nick! I'm looking forward to this one.

Laurie Smith 10-03-2009 11:40 AM

Re: Nik

This was a great one! My first time doing pistols too. I used db and just put in on top of my shoulder so I didn't have to do anything but hold it in place. I don't know about you but my legs were total jello on that last run. Nice job!!

Nik Nichols 10-04-2009 06:26 AM

Re: Nik

thank everyone, well I have bad news, I pulled my back really bad yesterday. I was working on my fence, we are putting up 8 foot wood pannels. We had a section on he ground, I grabbed one coner with my rigt hand and was spinning the section in place, and bam, pulled it.

The pull is on my left side middle of my back. I have been streching and rolling. The spasums havent hit today, but it is hard to move. I will keep you all posted. but I will not be workoing out for a wile. I will see how it goes.:yikes:

Scott Jenkins 10-04-2009 06:34 AM

Re: Nik

Really sorry to hear this Nik. Sounds like its in a place thats not spine related so it should heal quickly as long as you ice it thoroughly and rest it up. Dont go mad with the foam roller for a day as new injuries can reactly badly at first just concentrate on ice and rest. Hope it gets better quickly Nik I totally understand how you feel.

Laurie Smith 10-04-2009 11:29 AM

Re: Nik

Ouch, hope you feel better soon!!:(

Sorry to hear about that Nik, really sucks. Keep us posted.

Greg Privitera 10-04-2009 02:05 PM

Re: Nik

Damn dude sorry. I've dealt with a pretty bad back injury in the past, and can give you more advice in the near future.

For now:

Don't stretch it. And don't do anything that hurts.

Edit:

Definitely not your fault, but I don't think it's that much of a coincidence that it was a day after pistols. I think people need to be really careful with these and lower back position.

Ernie Guevara 10-04-2009 02:08 PM

Re: Nik

Sorry to hear about your back nik. Get well soon and pumping out pr's like before!
