pushups and pullups while injured
Hi everybody,

Just had a quick question about programming. Just had surgery on hip so im sticking with pushups and pullups for a while. Anyone have suggestions to a workout schedule? I have been doing 150 pushups and 150 pullups pretty much everyday for the past week, but this may be to much. Is there a problem with doing them everyday or should I take a different approach?
Suggestions or advice for a routine would be awesome!

Make sure you take care of shoulder and wrist mobility to help avoid overuse and injuries from bad bio-mechanics. Good luck with recovery.

150 of each might be a lot for you or it might not--some more context would be helpful.

How many can you do in a max set? Are you doing them all at once, or spread through the day? Are you going to failure on each set or stopping short? Are they getting easier, or do you feel like you're always beat down? If you never take a day off you're probably not going to recover and make progress.

@Mike-thanks for the reminder. I have been feeling a little tight through the upper body. Have to take better care of that!

@Eric- I have been doing the 150 pullups and pushups throughout the day. When ever I approach the bar at my home I might do between 1-5 sets of 10-15 pullups. With the pushups, i do sets of 20-25. After doing this for a week I for sure do feel a little over worked and know I must take a different approach. I would add some variations with the pushups but I'm still on crutches and trying to be careful not to aggravate the hip and slowly trying to get back in the swing of things. I just got the clearance from the surgeon to do some upper body, bodyweight work so may have jumped the gun a bit and not planned accordingly. So as for programming, do you think an every other day format would be more efficient? What are your thoughts?

I do have to ask, why so dang many? I think you would be better off trying to master the one arm pushup and working on the one arm chinup.

Your right way too many! Today I threw 25 lbs in a book bag and did 5x5 with both pushups and pullups. Then carefully climbed the wall and practice some handstand work and hspu. I will take the day off tomorrow!
