Japan Earthquake, information needed
I know this is not crossfit related, mods feel free to remove this post if it violates any rules.

If anyone has friends or family in Japan, I hope that they are safe. Joni Owada (my sister), her husband and 4 small children are currently unaccounted for, and we are trying to get information on the extent of the damage in her area of Northern Japan. If anyone has contacts there that could help, please let me know. she lives in Kesen-gun, Iwate, Japan, which is about 80 miles north of Sendai, and Her village is only 11 miles NW of the highest waves from the Tsunami that hit Ofunato. There is also more detailed information with her home address, etc. on the Google website for Japan earthquake missing persons.

With all the military connections on this site I was hoping maybe someone knows a way to find out more information.

Thank you for your time,

Insomnia has its upside ... unable to sleep last night and listening to CNN to pass the time, I heard about this site

work and family safe.

I hope it helps you, and I hope everyone is safe.

Thanks so much, both of you- Joni Owada is already listed on the Google website, hopefully we will get some more information about the extent of the damage soon.

God Bless,

I can't help with human sources, but Google Earth is pushing out new images as fast as their satellite can take them.

I hope everyone is okay and you get back in touch soon.

some encouraging news!
I just received an email from a man in Canada whose brother lives in Sumita. He found me online on another forum. The power of the internet is pretty amazing! Sumita is a mountain village of about 6500 people, and there are very few foreigners.

The good news is that his brother was able to make a phonecall out, and verified that most of Sumita was still standing. He even knows my sister, and said her house was not destroyed. He did not see her though.

I am still waiting to hear from my sister, but this is the best news we could have received.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and support- I'll post again when I have more information.

a sigh of relief...
My sister called my Mom tonight. They are pretty shaken up, but all alive! Lots of broken windows, no heat, electric, or water- but their house is standing, and their family is together.

Thank you to everyone who offered up help, prayers and support! I feel lucky to be a part of this community, and this experience has given me a new appreciation of the stress that must be an ever-present burden for the families of our military, with the constant "unknown" status required for our special forces...

I am a surgeon, I have endured a fair amount of stress in my career...but the past 36 hours were some of the worst I can remember. Not knowing if your family is alive, injured, or dead and feeling helpless to get information about it has to be one of the worse things to experience.

Thank you all so very much.

No word from my sister since Sat. We are anxious to get them out of the country, they are 100 miles north of the nuclear plants that are having so many issues...

I did hear from a canadian man I met on another site that there is a US/British aid team in Sumita providing support, so that was a relief to hear.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and support-
