Good day all,

Quick question, I have been on the Zone for about 3 weeks and have really tried to stick to the RX with the blocks. I am 4-4-2-4-2 blocks. I am seeing results and I enjoy the program. I actually have fun weighing and measuring. I like getting ready for work and packing my huge lunch bag. I do the WOD 5 on 2 off due to work and scheduling (sp?).

My question is this.

Can I reduce my carbs only to say 3 block instead and keep the fat/protien at 4? I am just going crazy trying to eat all that roughage while staying away from too much fruit. I currently eat on apple/orange/grapefruit etc with each meal. Aside for the expence it is just plain crazy to pop so much down range.

What, if any, side effect will this have on training intensity and trimming down?

PS. I would like to let everyone know that I appreciate all the assistance and support to my success at CrossFit. Thanks

Probably wont hurt you. Why not try a different carb source. Oatmeal is a cheap high fiber carb source. I put some in my protein drink when in a hurry. Flax meal on food, rye bread, barley and other sources.

I actually do cheat down on my carbs sometimes but I am at 25 blocks.

I seemed to remember this coming up quite some time ago. I found this old post by Lauren on carb blocks ... I'm not sure she would give the same answer today, but according to this post you should be just fine.

Good luck

thank you for the responses. I will adjust for a week or so to 3 blocks carbs and see what happens.

Yes, you can reduce the carbs, but replace each carb block with 3 blocks of fat to offset the caloric change. This will also help keep everything in line hormonally. Rob Wolf had some good posts about this a while back while talking about implementing metabolic diet-type systems via Zone weighing and measuring. I'm currently along the same lines and it's working great.

Boo. I have done the lower carbs for the last couple of days and I feel foggy and groggy. Thinking that I will have to go back to the RXed plan. Well it was worth a shot. Will just have to rethink that types of carbs I am getting. Might have to implement a few unfavorable carbs to keep the numbers up.

Looking for suggestions still.
