This was a first time at this. I had a similar "problem" that I am having with cleans and other similar lifts.

I am used to behind the neck presses and back squats so holding the bar in front is awkward--even fearful.

Also, my shoulder ache when doing the exercises. Not the normal muscle burn but a dull ache. Is this normal? Is it part of the process of getting acclimated to a new lift.

Also, where can I get more detail on the techniques of the lift. I am not sure I am doing the catch right. Any help would be appreciated.

Theron-

Sounds normal. Try adding some light front squats in your warm-up for a few weeks. You should make progress pretty quickly and feel more comfortable as well.
