Possible Cross Fit Affiliate Names

Just did some brain storming today and was hoping to get some input and thoughts. I am looking to open my frist box this Sept if all goes well.

Possible Company Names:
 Iron Works Cross Fit
 Cross Fit Kanata
 Cross Fit Steel Warriors
 Legion Cross Fit
 Cross Fit Gladiators
 Spartan Cross Fit
 Rangers Cross Fit
 Extreme Cross Fit
 Dragon Warrior Cross Fit

Some of these maybe taken. I haven't reviewed all the Cross Fit affiliates.

Let me know which one you like best.

Cheers. Jordan

I vote Legion CF of those.

If you want a steel theme, personally I would try to make another unique word out of it like "IronBody" or "SteelFit" or something like that. There are a lot of possibles. Maybe even Steel Legion or "Iron Legion." You'll have to watch for trademark infringement of course.

before you decide on the name, make sure the domain name is available too.

Spartan Crossfit - only cuz it was the nickname of my highschool - and the movie 300 - people identify with that stuff

I like the Steel/Iron names...

Not to keen on the warriors/rangers/spartans.

Just remember that CrossFit is ONE word. I've been noticing a lot of affiliates-to-be are still putting Cross Fit, crossfit with a lowercase f, etc.

Thank you everyone for the great feedback.

I have to say I like the ring of Iron Legion CrossFit

I also live in National Capital of Canada. I was also thinking of calling it National Capital CrossFit

Re: Possible Cross Fit Affiliate Names

Maybe just National CrossFit, or Capital CrossFit. Or the reverse, CrossFit National... Or Ottawa CrossFit...of course then you could just call it The O.C. (ottawa CrossFit) and everyone would love it. :yikes:

I think their is a "Sparta" CrossFit, so HQ probably wouldn't let this one fly. (great name, though)

My two cents:

Iron, Steel, Hard...used to death and sounds very 80s when I hear it.

Sorry. Kanata, what's that? From a consumer standpoint, this might confuse people.

Extreme, well if you only want extreme clients OK, but you might scare the average joe/soccer mom off with that one.

Rangers sound very military/law enforcement.

Spartan...personally I loved 300...I like that one!

Steel Warriors....again a little outdated for me....also sounds like a workers union :D

Legion......super hero'ish.........yeah I like it!

Dragon Warrior...again 70s-80s flashback....expect to hear Bon Jovi / White Snake when walk in door.

All great names, I'm sure have meaning to you.....my affiliate is CrossFit40...because I'm 45 and CrossFit has changed my life. My younger clients have trouble identifying with that name and I'm constantly explaining it over and over and over. *sigh* LOL

Have fun with it!

Hey Jordan, take those words and look them up in latin or spanish or german. You get some cool sounding names that mean the same thing. Good marketing technique I learned from myself.;)

Re: Possible Cross Fit Affiliate Names

As someone who lives in Kanata, I don't find CrossFit Kanata confusing at all. :)

Note that there is already CrossFit Ottawa (WFS) although the gym is also called/branded The Gas Hut. It seems to have grown out of what was called CrossFit Mobile here in Ottawa, run by Pierre Auge (WFS). There used to be a Capital CrossFit as well as CrossFit NCR (National Capital Region) in town it seems, see this thread (WFS) for some more info.

Let me just say other than working out at The Gas Hut for some time, I have no other links to these gyms, but I wanted to share what I've picked up after lurking around the boards for the last year.

If I can add my two cents, I like names that have the area that the gym is in.

Good luck!

Never hear of Capital or NCR. They still around? Figured Pierre was the only guy in town with a studio. Unless the others were knock offs.

I was thinking CrossFit Kanata but seems like everyone under the sun uses their home town name. Not always easy to come up with original names.

Hey Ken. I am looking into putting together a Cross Fit group for the summer to train on either Sat or Sun at Mooey's Bay. Your more than welcome to join us. Get a chance to practice skills, do a great WOD, meet other Cross Fitters, have a great time, encourage and challenge each other. Figure it would be a good way to educate the community out there that there are other options besides GoodLife. Send me a PM if your interested.

Thank you again to everyone for the feedback. I will post in future what I come up with. I do like Spartan CrossFit but I am told it is taken.

I agree, I like the spartan one as well but let me think of some names...

First off, Tell us a little bit about the town that the CrossFit will be in? Maybe I can make up a name off of that...

P.S. I'm a rapper and I make beats. This is what I do. I make up stuff. ;)

Re: Possible Cross Fit Affiliate Names

Iron Monkey CrossFit? Dragon Ball CrossFit? Iron Man Crossfit? Tenage Mutant Ninja Turltle CrossFit?

Actually, Iron Works and Steel Works are the names of labrartories in DC comics used by a super hero named John Henry Irons aka Steel. You might even remember the movie that stared Shaq. No? You might want to stay away from those names.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Henry_Irons

Legion is also the name of a super hero group http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L.E.G.I.O.N. as well as the Legion of Super Heroes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superma...f_Super-Heroes

Yes. It was time to get my geek on.

I would stay away from jazzy or even comic book sounding names. Go with something that fits your personality, style or location.

Brian Sharp 04-07-2009 09:45 AM

Re: Possible Cross Fit Affiliate Names

My first thought when I read "Iron Legion" was that it sounded like a German Army Panzer group.

I don't think you can do better than your town or area name + CrossFit.

I think the only reasons to go with a non location based CF name are because you either are planning on having multiple locations not in the same city or you have an existing business/ gym that your clients already know and you have invested lots of time and effort in promoting as a brand.

Someone in your area who finds out about CF (say from the main site) will go to Google and type in CrossFit + the town name. If you're CrossFit 'wherever' it will come up. If you're not it is less likely to be in the top 10.

This sounds good to me.

As Ken mentioned, there was a Capital Crossfit that had an awesome start...it sounds like time became an issue for the owner (he had another job). I did my Level 1 in Santa Cruz with him.

Good luck with the affiliate! We are moving/posted to Ottawa this fall.

Jordan:
Before you pick your name, use the "phone test"
Practice answering the phone with your gym's name...
ie: "Hello, Crossfit Tanata, how can I help you?" That works,
"Hello, Crossfit Iron Monkey, how can I help you?" ...not so much.
Sort of the last test to see if a name works in "real life".

What does everyone think of the following.

Spartan Fitness / Crossfit Kanata

Spartan Athletics / Crossfit Kanata

I have done a name search yet in my province I will be soon this month.

I like the Spartan them. I really consider all cross fitters to be warriors at heart.

They say two different things. Fitness is more geared to training for GPP. Athletics sounds like it's geared toward training for sports. (baseball?)
Which are you?

Hi Eric. I think what I going for is a company that does a little of both.

I don't want to call it Spartan Crossfit because I think it is already taken. I also in future plan to expand my studio into a much larger studio that will deal with MMA and other martial arts training. I would like my company name to represent that I am forging warriors. Weather you be a stay at home mom warrior or an MMA champion.

My sports background is very extensive. Hockey, Track, Skiing, X running, Swimming, Tae Kown Do, kick boxing, wrestling, cycling. etc

Played hockey competitive for 21 years, Swimming for 8, Tae Kown Do for 3, wrestling for 2, track for 6, X running for 6.

I want the sub title to be Crossfit Kanata so people come across it easily in searches.
