No man the movie sucked. The comic book is great.

What's important about this letter and the movie is the ending.

I enjoyed the movie, but it's just not a great piece of cinema. It couldn't be, they did the best they could, but they were trying to do the impossible.

Ah yes. I've heard that a lot of people thought it impossible to adapt to the screen. So yes, they did what they could and I think it turned out well, all things considered.

I couldn't imagine tackling a project of that magnitude...

It's funny you say that because neither did Alan Moore.

Right. I don't know the whole story, but didn't he wash his hands of the whole movie idea and everything associated with it?

"I didn't design it to show off the similarities between cinema and comics, which are there, but in my opinion are fairly unremarkable. It was designed to show off the things that comics could do that cinema and literature couldn't."-Alan Moore

He gave the ok for the movie, but he didn't want his name on it or anything to do with it.

If you're interested I could give you my take on why I think Moore's right from a formal elements perspective.
