Hey jay, about the online qualifiers, I believe I read somewhere that they are only for military people this year. I could be wrong but for some reason I remember reading something about that. I'll try and see if I can find where I read it.

Definitely a good reason to wam up earlier. When do you eat lunch if you normally workout during your lunch hour?

I try to eat right after the workout if I have time to sit down, sometimes I don't have time so I eat as I work. Plate on the table beside the equipment I'm working on.

Snatch 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 reps

1.95lbs
2.100lbs
3.115lbs F, got it
4.120lbs F,F,F, got it
5.125lbsF,F,F,F,got it
6.130lbs got it first try
7.135lbs F,F,F,got it

Last time max was 100lbs

I don't usually go past 3 attempts and count it, I usually call fail and drop weight. I guess I cheated today. I don't care.
I was determined to get this right. I'd miss and pray like a mad man for skill and strenth. I knew the weight wasn't to much, but it was all skill. I have OHS more this, this weight is not to heavy for me. It was all skill. I had to convince myself of that fact.

So I was determined to fight through doubt and keep going and figure out form. Good day.

Congrats Nik and there is no need to stop after 7 attempts, it takes a long time to warm up for a full snatch so no way stop until you are certain you cannot do any more.

:highfive: and 35lb PR, massive!!

I think my pr is 125lb in a globo set up :stir:

Love it. I've had days like that too with the Oly lifts. When it gets heavy, unless you get the technique right on its not going up.
I have a new appreciation for the snatch. I never liked it, but I'm pretty excited to hit them again. Only problem is I don't have an Olympic bar or bumper weights which makes it a little more difficult.

To true, I am spoiled on my bumpers and oly bar. I don't have the extra worry of dropping it. It is really a freedom.

30 Muscle-ups for time (proper with wrist turnout)

time 13:04

I missed 3reps and on rep 29 I didn't turnout, I dropped to full ext, but didn't turnout. I told myself it was ok, I went to full ext and I need one more rep. I got on the rings and said''no I'll do two reps'' and got the one I screwed up.

Scott thanks for the video, starting in the hand with wrist turned out was great.

Last time below.
30 Muscle-ups for time

34:30
last time was 36min.

But I had to jump the last 5 reps. I didn't miss the first 11, missed one rep. Then started missing reps at 17, struggeled to 25, missed 7in a row, I ended up with attempts that looked like pullups. My for arms are wrecked, hurt really really bad at the last five. sheer stupedity kept me going even in jumping. Still really sore.
Thanks Richard, I am chuffed!!!!

Doing it like Leon, starting with my wrist out threw me into a rythm, it all clicked and felt good. I did no less then 2reps. I miss a few trying for a third, but it really worked. I would drop down for another reps and hit the turnout right in rythm for the next one.

Oh great pic too!

Strong work across the board Nik, good way to do it with all 7 sets at a max, makes the work much more dense, I will try this.

Thanks Scott.
I have been working my false grip and I'm always doing MU's I don't log all of it, because it is not in sets. More like 3or4 here a few in the morning. But I hit them almost everyday for a few. I retaped my rings and taped my wrist to keep from blisters being a problem. So the rings were real fresh and grippy.

It is about mid of the pack on time on the comments page. Huge PR for me, but I still need to be faster to compete.

The thrusters I didn't really want to start light with what I knew I could do. I wanted to push it. I wabbled on 155, then wabbled on 165 more, but it was doable. Rest time and psyching myself out and prayer work for me.

At max efforts I'm ok at. it is sustained endurance I need to work.

Good heavy consistent work there Nik! :highfive: Did your collar bones get a beating from catching the weight each rep or did you get each rep without stopping?

Nik Nichols 03-27-2010 11:51 AM

Re: Nik
Good heavy consistent work there Nik! :highfive: Did your collar bones get a beating from catching the weight each rep or did you get each rep without stopping?
I got every set of 3 unbroken. But at ''heavy'' weights I HAVE to rack it to get the most out of the hip drive. So my collar bones are red sore and a bit raw,but not to bad. My shoulders and elbow joints, traps quuads and glutes are feeling it big time though.

I tell you for me getting that weight each set was tough. I had to psych myself out to do it. I could get the first one easy, but second and third reps were tough. Hard to breath, hard to push out of the bottom with any real power and I needed all I could get to get the bar to lockout.

Scott Jenkins 03-27-2010 01:40 PM

Re: Nik

Something that helps me when doing heavy thrusters is to do the squat portion just like I am doing a front squat and only at the last bit of the squat just really increase the speed and explode, like a slow front squat followed by the push press eccentric. My reason is that trying to go at speed from the bottom of the squat wastes a lot of energy and when we do power cleans we are supposed to start slow and then get fast.

I see what you mean, like the first pull and second pull in the squat clean. First pull is slow and easy, the second pull is the real power. i will have to try that out in the thruster.
