Anyone actually use them?

Any suggestions if I want to get a pair? Or am I just looking to spend money that I don't need to?

Patrick Johnston 01-06-2006 12:10 PM

I use them. I find them to be extremely helpful when squatting or doing O-lifting. I would say that if you are doing much O-lifting that they are worth the money without a doubt.

So, are the Otomix type of sneaker shoe okay, or do I want to get the ones with the wooden supports as part of the shoe?

If you're serious about olympic lifting, get the shoes with the wooden heels. It's like night and day.

There are lots of options: I just got a pair of Do-Wins through Glenn at http://www.ZhangKongUSA.com for my daughter ($85) and a pair of the Model A shoes through Joe at PowerFirm at http://www.weightliftingshoes.ca/index.html ($120) for myself. I can recommend both vendors highly - they're both friendly and helpful, and my daughter and I are both happy with our new shoes.

Several sites sell the Adidas, including dynamic-eleiko.com. I got some other stuff from them - not shoes - but I can tell you they're good folks, too.

I usually end up doing my lifting in wrestling shoes, which have a flat sole and little padding.

I have never lifted with real weight lifting shoes to compare them to. I figure I can get them before I go to a comp. Then my numbers might go up a little.

I used to use wrestling shoes but there is no comparision between the two.

Get weightlifting shoes if you are serious about improving your lifting.

You'll notice the difference immediately and wonder how you ever did without them.

I've got a pair of Adidas shoes and they are great.

Otomix are okay for lighter weights but for the heavy stuff you'll want to break out the Adidas.

How long do weightlifting shoes last? If I get the trace-my-feet-send-away-to-Canada brand, I don't imagine I'll need to replace them for a few years?

Veronica Carpenter 01-08-2006 07:11 PM

I've had mine for about 6yrs or so. I wear them every time I train and compete. They've still got plenty of life in them, but the sole at the toes are starting to wear. I've got Addidas
