Milt's Log II
 
Its been a minute....

A lot has happened since my last post here. A lot! I had a career in oil and gas project management, so things have been rocky for the past year and a half. So now I am in the midst of a career change and I am working on a degree in economics. Only working off-and-on for the last 18 months has meant more time with my family, so some good has come of things.

Now, I am starting to get more focused on who I am. School is good, back at work, just went to Hawaii. Life is starting to turn around!

So its time to get back to the gym. I had started a blog to track progress, but I never felt as accountable to myself with that as I did here, hence the new log.

For the first time in years I have gotten used to not going to the gym, finally pushed myself back tonight!

Just got a new pair of Nano 5's today. Really good fit, comfort. I had been using Nano 2's since 2012(?), so, aside from my lifters, this is the first time Ive worked out in a new shoe in years!

Its a great feeling to be moving again!

Not making it to the gym today, but I am doing a full-scale landscaping project at home and I spent a couple of hard hours on that today. Got at least the workout I would have had at the gym....

Warm-up was a 1/2 mile on the treadmill, some lower body mobility and a few double-unders

Still not getting to the gym....

I did finish up a major landscaping project at home this weekend, though. The culmination was a cubic yard of gravel I had to deal with.....it was about 2,800lb I had to hump around my yard!

Reps: [B][I][U]63 (3 reps in to the 15s)[/U][/I][/B] - managed the toes to bar in singles. Ripped off the power snatches like jumping jacks! Maybe should have gone a bit heavier!

400m run for a finisher. Running has been a sore spot for me, and we do a lot of it at 956, so I am going to get some extra runs in to try to improve run times.

Been off for a bit...I have developed some over-use issues in my knees, and a bit in the elbows. Likely from trying to keep up with the youngin's at the gym! Started to back off a bit, lightened the load tonight and going to try to focus more on mobility.

Wise decision. Always tricky trying to keep up with youngsters. Nice to see you back on here logging again. Hope life is treating you well, Calgary is a tough place to be right now. I see you are doing school, what are you taking ? I know previously you were in project management. That new gym you go to is has one of Mikey's big time clients at it Zach Carlin, guy is a beast and back to training. I wanna see him at Regionals again this year I think he could make some noise.

I have definitely let my intensity get the best of me, now I have to slow down to try and heal-up…frustrating, but its gotta be done.

I was a project manager, and actually still am. I just work I the civil service now, managing federal infrastructure projects…I am going to school, working on a degree in economics, planning on graduate studies eventually – law or public policy….maybe even architecture, I will see what I think of construction in a few years.
Yeah, its cool having Zach Carlin as a coach! I knew him from his days at AI, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw him for the first time at 956. Definitely a beast, too! Top 5 regional finisher and I would bank on him being a Games athlete next year! He is in the Granite Games this weekend as well (he had a 6th place finish there a couple years ago).

Clean and jerk singles:[B][I][U] 205#, 225, 235, 245, 255[/U][/I][/B], 265(xxx) - got up to 255 with no misses! Had good cleans on 265, just couldnt get the jerk!

18 for 22 total today, really solid session! Going to try to keep working on this!

10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 20 air-squats (between rows)
Rounds: [B][I][U]4 full, 250m, 10 push-ups, 6 sit-ups[/U][/I][/B]

Wasnt feeling great tonight. Lots of leg/hip/ankle mobbing lately as well.

In for a quick weightlifting session...

5 min on assault bike and some leg mobility

Snatch singles: [B][I][U]155#[/U][/I][/B], 165(x,x,x), 175(x,x), 185(x), [B][I][U]185, 195,[/U][/I][/B] 205(x,x) - lots of fails, but got more weight than last time!

Power Clean:[B][I][U] 205# x 3[/U][/I][/B]
Power clean & Jerk: [B][I][U]205#[/U][/I][/B]
Clean & Jerk:[B][I][U] 225#[/U][/I][/B], 235(x), [B][I][U]205[/U][/I][/B] - exhausted! called it there...

A lot of missed lifts today, head wasnt really there like last time....felt kind of rushed today, and I had my kids with me. So, that I still got 13 good lifts is a minor victory. Will hit the rower tonight after the kids are in bed maybe...
