Flew a training sortie today. Still feeling the lingering effets of whatever this bug is. I'm more tired than I should be and the headache is back. So no workout (again) today.

Scott,

Is there any numbness associated with your pain? Often, back problems manifest themselves in spots well away from your spine. I had some pain in my left knee that turned out to be a little sciatic irritation. Can't imagine that jumping out of perfectly good aircraft for 30 yrs didn't have some sort of impact on your back. Messed up my dad pretty bad.

And before you tell me that there is no such thing as a perfectly good airplane, let me define "perfectly good" for airplanes as landings equal takeoffs.

090402 THURSDAY...

Couldn't stand it any longer - went to the globo for a little workout -- back still bothering me.

Warm-up: Stationary Cycling 10:00 / L3 / 100 RPM / 2.6 mi.
CFWU

Kipping pull-up practice. Didn't count reps (lots of swings, singles, doubles, and some triples) - trying to get it down. Lost my coordination I think.

Tried some dead hangs, got 8 in a row (PR!). Rested, tried a few more kips, got 6 more DHs! (tied old PR).

OHS practice:
PVC X 10
30# bar X 10
45# bar X 10

Form felt good, but it was hard work. Really fought with the 45 to keep it overhead.

Charlie,

Take care of yourself! As for Landings = Takeoffs, take a Cessna 150 or other lighter aircraft to Crescent City (CEC). Just about the windiest place on earth; crosswind landings guaranteed; exceeding crosswind landing component of a given aircraft; distinctly possible!

You guys rock! I'm 46, and just starting CF, but I'm learning a lot from you, just reading all this.

Keep it coming...I'm really inspired by all of you.

I'm from Ohio, 6-1, 240 and trying to drop weight...a 25+ year weightlifter and like many on here, have stopped seeing much in the way of results and am looking for something newer and a challenge. I like the CF way because it's steeped in a lot of the traditional disciplines like Oly lifting and gymnastics, all while putting functional fitness first.

All I know is, it's kicking my butt..but I love it...

Thanks again guys and gals.

Thanks, guys.

I'm trying to improve not only performance, but consistency. I've been lurking on here and posting off & on since 2007, but haven't dived in headfirst till recently. Crossfit has me trembling in fear...

As a larger guy, my weaknesses are the pullups, metcons and running (is there anything else?!). The thought of a 5 minute Fran blows my mind.

I can (sort of) lift large heavy things, but lifting and moving my own carcass is where I tend to fall down.

My goal here is to improve the performance, consistency, and reporting and capturing of the workouts so I can tell if any true improvements are occurring.

As I get better stamina, I plan on getting some benchmark times in the key named WODs to have something to show everyone here.

But thanks for the encouragement.

Welcome aboard Ron,
Are you going to work out at an affiliate, globo or home?

Yet another rest day for me. Got another deep tissue massage...she beat me up. But the back's feeling pretty good. My plan is to start attacking the squats, pistols, running and bike while doing light back/lat/serratus stuff on the c2 and unloaded bar. AND, I'm gonna dive into Starting Strength and see what Riptoe has to say about all this.

Charlie, Nope, no numbness...thank goodness. Massage girl said my lat felt like a knotted rope. Wish I know how I got it this canx'd up. I'm guessing that it might have been a poor form deadlift PR attempt.

Scott
