homemade safety squat bar

i thought i would share.
i went into home depot and started building this thing in the home depot pipe section.
added a pool noodle around the pipe (its not the greatest cushioning) and duct tape the noodle to the pipe then used electrical tape on top of the duct tape.

i used a cheap barbell with a hex bolt, took one side off slid it on then on each side i used a pipe clamp to hold it in place.
i need this thing welded one of these days.
this is my temporary solution until i could afford one.

i like Rogues Safety squat bar- that thing looks awesome.

Re: homemade safety squat bar
I have shoulder issues that prevent me from getting a "proper" grip on a barbell during squats, so I welded up a set of 12" handles out of 3/4" black pipe and some 1/2" angle iron a while back. I can put them on any bar in a matter of minutes, but I have a dedicated squat bar, so that's where they stay.

David--creative thinking, by adding the yoke/padding you've gotten one of the benefits of the safety bar--easy on the shoulders.

But, to make the safety bar the jerk that it is, you also need to have the slight camber that pitches you forward when you squat. I wonder if there would be a way to clamp the weights on at a camber?

Darn you for being so tall you can box squat on a bench.

Re: homemade safety squat bar
thanks robert.
i know that the real safety squat bars have a camber to push you forward where you have to fight so you dont round your back.
im not exactly sure if i could make any type of camber in the bar that is wy i said this would be a temporary solution until i could buy a real one.
