2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Should we have another official thread this year? All right! Let's do this!

In the last few years I've enjoyed having one place to discuss, ask questions, speculate, and recap the Games season competition. Welcome aboard. Let's see what happens this year.

There are some significant changes this year:
- super Regionals
- scaled division
- teenage division
- state and country champions.

I have been a friend and followed Nick Fory's efforts to qualify for the Games from the Central East region. I don't think the super-Regional competition will work in his favor.

I wonder if the scaled division means that the Rx division will have more difficult work outs. " If you cannot get one rep of the prescribed version of the workout, or simply find the scaled workout more appropriate for you, you’ll be able to opt for scaled."

I'm guessing there will be prize money for the state and country champs.

I think you can count on the Rx Open working the weight loads more into the "heart" of the WOD. For instance, 13.1 did have an ascending snatch ladder that went up to 205#, but started at 75#. If that same type of WOD happens this year, I bet it starts at 95#, at least, and probably gets higher, sooner. I think the Rx division will see some new standards on other things, e.g.: 12'/11' wall balls, 30"/24" box jumps, and I think some advanced movements like MU (definitely ring, maybe bar this year?) will show up earlier in WODs, instead of being reserved just for the end (e.g., 14.4). I think this year's "waiting for you at the end if you get to it" may be triples!

I hope so! I can rattle off a string of 10 or so pretty consistently. :)

*shakes fist*

I got one, once, sorta by accident. I was doing doubles, and then just went, "let me see if I can........*whizzzzz*..." and managed a triple. My coach was watching and went, "whoa.....that was a triple!" Haven't been able to do one since. Four weeks.....

I would like to see an OHS+TTB couplet like they did in the Team Series.

I would absolutely love to see bar muscle ups in an Open wod. That would be great for me.

For the Masters Qualifier Workout, I would like to see Jackie, Diane or Amanda as the benchmark workout. I'm good at all of those.

Would guess that they drop the hammer on the open because they have the scaled division. Might not be just a met con athon.. like the past minus some of the workouts.

Hoping for a all over HSPU, Bar muscle ups, HS walks, rope climbing.. stuff like that.

In a bit over a month will find out.

Nursing a back injury.. so hopefully will be better prior to the open.

Not a fan of the new regional system. They've basically taken the games out of the countries surrounding the USA. I don't know how many people would travel to Texas from latina america, or Hartford from anywhere in Canada East, its taken a lot of the pride and national aspect out of it I find.

I do think they will up the ante for the open being that they have the scaled option, but exactly what that will entail I don't know, I just hope no sloppy form, and a variety of tests/aspects.

I wonder if they will out that athlete who they said was being dodgy about being tested. Castro posted it on his IG.

And also if we see some big names opt to not even do the open because they are doing Grid.

This is a video clip of the awesome little CrossFit models that Dave Castro uses to plan out Regional work outs. It was posted on the Instagram page of Sevan Matossian, CrossFit photographer and interviewer. Dave said, "So, we're going to have to kick someone out of the Open today. They were on the list to be drug tested, and they basically d****ed around the testers and lied to them about their location. (Off screen interjection?) Yeah, it's crazy, huh?"

This would have to refer to someone good enough for off-season testing, i.e., a Regional-level competitor at least.

Castro's use of the word "today" is interesting. Sevan posted this a week ago and adds the comment that this happened at 2:22pm. This infers that whoever got kicked out would have been told that day.

One commenter suggested it sounds staged. If so, it doesn't sound any more staged than some of Castro's past discipline actions.
