Are there any good parks(for WODs) in the Alex/DC area that CFers can recommend? I just moved to Alexandria,VA from Maryland and learning the area. Thanks

Steven

Well I know a few but it depends on what your looking for. Will you use rings or do you want to use monkey bars. What area is closest to you?
There's a great park at the end of Hains point that's a kids playground. Also, behind pentagon city mall they have some soccer fields that run into a playground area. In Crystal city they have a water park(not slides just a sitting area.) area that could work but you might get kicked out if you hang up rings. If your close to Memorial bridge you have to find Hains point you can park there and use the steeps at Lincoln memorial. Tell me the area you live in.

Steven,
Alexandria loves fitness!
Seriously, this town is real fitness friendly...and better yet CrossFit is spreading quickly in the area. I'm starting a recurring Saturday morning Park workout on the 14th. I picked the Park mainly because it's got a kick-butt, sand-filled volleyball court; can you say regular Hooverball games?

w/f/s link of park:
Windmill Hill Park
501 South Union Street

I also hold regular indoor workouts M-W-F.

Tom has an amazing crew and Killer Sunday workout in DC. Jen, Russ Greene and I are regular attendees definitely drop in; http://www.crossfitdc.com/

Send me an email and let me know what I can do to help.

In Strength,
Jerry

The Mt. Vernon trail has some exercise stations between Old Town and Mount Vernon. When I lived in OT, I used to love running or biking down the trail and using the parallel bars, pull up bars, and rings (yes rings!) along the way. Plus it goes right along the river and is very pretty.

Jerry - Is the Hoover Ball game on the 14th open to all? If so, I'd like to play. Ever since I moved to the soulless (yet affordable) MD suburbs, I've been missing my old neighborhood, especially now that there's an affiliate there!

Hey Matt, where on the trail. Give me a few land marks.

Jerry Hill 04-08-2007 04:28 PM

Matt,
First off thanks for the heads-up on the trail, will def check that out!

Secondly, I'll be sure to post up and let you know about the Hooverball...we are getting our feet wet this week with our first outdoor workout, might wait to introduce hoover next week.

I believe that all the fitness stations are between miles 1 and 3, so if you start at Mt. Vernon and head North, you'll get to them pretty quickly.

Here's a (work/family safe) map that gives an idea of distances:

Hooverball sounds fun enough to get me to leave the austere solitude of my backyard gym and brave some beltway traffic.

Just let us know when it's going down, Jerry.
