Yes friends, the long-held hope and dream of CrossFitters worldwide is finally coming to fruition: CrossFit is taking on the Big Apple.

And it's taking it on very soon. If all goes according to plan, we should be live for a first class this July 3rd - a scant three weeks from now.

While complete details will follow shortly, we're hoping that rather than have this be a one-man (or -woman) show, it becomes sort of a CrossFit collective, with everyone pitching in to lead classes, and to help drive the direction and growth of the group.

To that end, this coming Sunday at 10:00am, anyone interested will be visiting the facility (a 5000sf gym called The Trainers Place, at 86th and 3rd) to scope things out, then retiring to brunch to strategize, work out immediate details, and stuff ourselves with Zone-friendly eats. (Or, at least, with the closest to Zone-friendly eats we can round up in an Upper East Side cafe.)

If you can join us on Sunday, if you can't but still want to help lead the nascent CF-NYC, or if you'd just like to be kept in the loop about how it's all coming together, shoot me an email: newman@cyanpictures.com.

The city will soon be ours.

I'm so psyched! Josh is my hero!!!!

Actually, I should now counter-credit Keith, whose organizing of Central Park WOM's spurred this idea in the back of my feral mind.

Looks like we should get a good handful of people on Sunday - full summary to follow.

Tell your friends on the east coast to come to Crossfit NYC...

It's finally happening!!!

Are you guys renting space in another gym?

Also, are you focusing on group classes, or following coaches advice and starting off with private classes and converting them to group.

Keith Wittenstein 06-23-2005 08:48 AM

We are using a gym for personal trainers. You can bring your clients in there and the gym takes a cut. We, however, will be starting with classes. Trying to start with some small classes to get people in gear. Of course, we will offer privates as well, but classes right now make more sense.

Just wanted to share: CFNYC officially launched today, with a whopping 14 attendees at our first class.

We're blogging progress at www.crossfitnyc.org.
